    Chris,

that is truly sad news. Grahame was a great modeller and a super bloke - mega helpful. Though we only knew each other through WT & RMWeb, we had corresponded for a while, and were looking forward to meeting at a show sometime. I had no idea he had been so ill.

if you are in contact with his family, please pass on my sincere condolences.

meanwhile, the custom GW transfers he kindly made for me are on my Riding Van, and will serve as a memento.

I have been unreliably informed that GW stands for Grahame Wagon. As such I felt it appropriate to obtain the following from the estate of the late Grahame Hitchen. Great bloke and I'll treasure them...

    Class 22 arrives

Domestic DIY projects are still the order of the day, so no modelling done since April. But in the meantime there's been a new item of stock acquired...

A fair while back @Ressaldar documented the build of a JLTRT D63XX / Class 22. I followed with interest and jokingly said I'd happily give the loco a home on Pencarrow should it ever come up for sale.

Well, a PM out if the blue last week means I'm now the proud owner of this beasty:

Very pleased with it, looks right at home lurking on my North Cornwall branch. Thanks Mike.

Its arrival means the the diesel roster for Pencarrow is now complete: 03, 22, AC Railbus.

And a copy of the frontmost face that faces the railway has been stuck to some board and cut out to the profile.

So far looks about right but need the roofline on to check. There's actually some brick in these buildings, will be a nice change to 100% stone.

The miniature in the foreground has the Bodmin North cottages in the same location. I think the Wadebridge houses look far more interesting.

    And many more bookcases installed...

    IMG_20230205_125832.jpg

But the fascia flats are now really starting to firm up and the building is starting to form in 3d...

    IMG_20230205_133056.jpg

Think I might crack on with the workshop that goes on the left end next.

Really looking forward to the 60 or so windows that need to be made. Thankfully it's a short terrace!

So, for the last few hours I've been making the carcass for the steps and the framework for the roof module.

The roof, as on the majority of other buildings I make, is a separate module. This helps construction / painting and also enables the interior to be accessed.

Starting to look the part. I'm pleased that I changed my mind on the buildings for this location, going to add a lot of visual interest when complete.

Ivatt 41275 and std 3 tank ponderings

Looks nice but would be wrong for the ex-SR lines in Cornwall (except for rule #1 :))) - an ex LMS Ivatt 2MT tank would be ideal....;) Bodmin North

    Hi Dave,
I do have an Ivatt tank already. I think there's a photo of it at the start of the thread, or at least a threadmark. Edit, here it is:

    Ivatt.jpg
Not built by me and, recent research has shown, with the wrong chimney. Blast...

And a photo of the prototype loco just up the road at the other, lesser GWR station.

Caption read: Ivatt 2MT 41275 has arrived at Bodmin General with the 6.55am from Wadebridge with a Maunsell P set. The guard has already placed the tail lamp ready for the return journey. 1st June 1963 (A. Chandler)

Now, Std 3 tanks in Cornwall... They were used on the Bude lines and towards the very end of passenger services on the North Cornwall into Padstow. I think 82042 may have been one of the last passenger services.

I've just found some text wot I writted 13 years ago....:

BR 82XXX Standard Class 3 Tanks on the NCR

The first batch of 82XXX (82010-82019) tanks arrived new at Exmouth Junction in the summer of 1952. 82012/14-16 disappeared to Eastleigh within eight months of arrival. The remaining engines replaced elderly M7s on the Bude and Exmouth branch workings and were also used on local services to Honiton and Axminster. A reported shortage of tank engines for an extended Sunday service to Delabole in August 1953 resulted in 82013 being "borrowed" from the Bude branch to take the afternoon working to Okehampton from Launceston, going on at 4.15pm to Delabole (6.06pm) before going back to Launceston.

A second batch (82020-82025) arrived in 1954 with 82020/22 staying only for a month (if at all). From then onwards the Exmouth Junction allocation remained fairly static until the early 60s. All these early arrivals carried the standard lined black livery. With the arrival of the more powerful BR Class 4 tanks in 1962, all ten remaining 3MTs departed for Eastleigh.

As services were scaled back in Cornwall and loads got lighter there was again a need for the 3MTs and eight stayed for various lengths of time between April 1963 and the end of steam. WR influences resulted in 82001/02/30/39/42 carrying the lined BR green livery and 82035/40 being finished in unlined green. Whilst it was rare for a Standard 3 tank to be seen working the North Cornwall line they did occasionally deputise for the 4MT tanks. Their more usual haunts included Bude and Exmouth services.

Notably 82042 appeared at Padstow on the last day of steam, 2 January 1965. This is the 3MT I modelled for Treneglos. If I get round to weathering it then it could appear on the layout one day! (Edit, it never did)

Another confirmed sighting on the NCR was 82030 which was photographed at both Padstow and Delabole on the 19th Sept 1964 with the 11.05am Padstow.

So in balance, there's a strong case for a purchase...

    Porters building revisited Nov 2023

Whilst I've been working on the provender store there's been a part finished building in my eyeline all the time. It's something I started one or two years ago (I suspect looking up the exact date would be a little soul destroying) and predates every other building on the layout.

    It's the Porter's building...
    IMG_20231125_123915.jpg

Now, shock horror, not only do I have scale drawings for it...

    IMG_20231125_123958.jpg

...but also loads of photos from every side.

    IMG_20231125_124042.jpg

I think it deserves to be finished off?

Spurred on by the Guage O Guild virtual show and modelling competition as advertised on here by @Jackie Kneeshaw and @Nick Dunhill, I've decided to put the finishing touches to the wharf buildings...
