Chris,

I have just discovered that Ragstone have taken over Agenoria’s product range. This may help with your wee pannier.

And several years later...

Having spoken to Ragstone at the last Stafford show, he's decided there's too much work involved in putting the 1366 right - especially considering there's other kits on the market.

Why does my finger keep hovering over the buy button for one of these?:

Looked superb at Kettering...

Would have to be one that could be a lined green 82042.

You see, this is one of the big advantages of working in EM. The thought of faffing about with rewheeling does put you off some purchases. Not enough, probably (in my case), but it does help... Nice looking things though, well-executed.

Looks nice but would be wrong for the ex-SR lines in Cornwall (except for rule #1 :))) - an ex LMS Ivatt 2MT tank would be ideal....;) Bodmin North

Hi Dave,
I do have an Ivatt tank already. I think there's a photo of it at the start of the thread, or at least a threadmark. Edit, here it is:

Ivatt.jpg
Not built by me and, recent research has shown, with the wrong chimney. Blast...

And a photo of the prototype loco just up the road at the other, lesser GWR station.

Caption read: Ivatt 2MT 41275 has arrived at Bodmin General with the 6.55am from Wadebridge with a Maunsell P set. The guard has already placed the tail lamp ready for the return journey. 1st June 1963 (A. Chandler)

Now, Std 3 tanks in Cornwall... They were used on the Bude lines and towards the very end of passenger services on the North Cornwall into Padstow. I think 82042 may have been one of the last passenger services.

I've just found some text wot I writted 13 years ago....:

BR 82XXX Standard Class 3 Tanks on the NCR

The first batch of 82XXX (82010-82019) tanks arrived new at Exmouth Junction in the summer of 1952. 82012/14-16 disappeared to Eastleigh within eight months of arrival. The remaining engines replaced elderly M7s on the Bude and Exmouth branch workings and were also used on local services to Honiton and Axminster. A reported shortage of tank engines for an extended Sunday service to Delabole in August 1953 resulted in 82013 being "borrowed" from the Bude branch to take the afternoon working to Okehampton from Launceston, going on at 4.15pm to Delabole (6.06pm) before going back to Launceston.

A second batch (82020-82025) arrived in 1954 with 82020/22 staying only for a month (if at all). From then onwards the Exmouth Junction allocation remained fairly static until the early 60s. All these early arrivals carried the standard lined black livery. With the arrival of the more powerful BR Class 4 tanks in 1962, all ten remaining 3MTs departed for Eastleigh.

As services were scaled back in Cornwall and loads got lighter there was again a need for the 3MTs and eight stayed for various lengths of time between April 1963 and the end of steam. WR influences resulted in 82001/02/30/39/42 carrying the lined BR green livery and 82035/40 being finished in unlined green. Whilst it was rare for a Standard 3 tank to be seen working the North Cornwall line they did occasionally deputise for the 4MT tanks. Their more usual haunts included Bude and Exmouth services.

Notably 82042 appeared at Padstow on the last day of steam, 2 January 1965. This is the 3MT I modelled for Treneglos. If I get round to weathering it then it could appear on the layout one day! (Edit, it never did)

Another confirmed sighting on the NCR was 82030 which was photographed at both Padstow and Delabole on the 19th Sept 1964 with the 11.05am Padstow.

So in balance, there's a strong case for a purchase...

Another school school day für mich selbst . Looks like you've already talked yourself into the acquisition of said loco :).

My SR knowledge is confined to the electrics and the ex-LBSC and SECR sections.

As an aside I always thought the best looking BR standard loco was the standard class 3MT 2-6-0 used in the Northern and Scottish regions as it reminds me of the Southern Pacific M21 2-6-0. Rather brutish with a sense of purpose.

...and as if by magic, although not quite in Cornwall.... A truly awful picture of WC 34017 with 82019 coupled inside (taken on the family Box Brownie) at Seaton Junction on 29th August 1961. I can't imagine anyone would want to copy it, but just for the record it's my personal collection, taken by me.

Not a consist I've seen before, looks decidedly weird. Makes you wonder what the story was....

Jeder Tag ist ein Schultag.

You've got one up on me, my knowledge of the ex LBSC and SECR goings on is decidedly equal to my knowledge of Southern Pacific M21. I've looked the latter up and can see what you mean.

if “other kits on the market” refers to the CRT version, all I can say is “don’t get me started”…

Talking of magnets...

I ended up installing them in 6 locations, spaced equally up each vertical interface. To get sufficient grab some of the locations had the magnets doubled up.

The result is that you can pick up the building by the extension and there's no fear of it dropping off.

IMG_20230311_095100.jpg

To get a positive location I added strips to the main building...
IMG_20230311_095147.jpg

...so that the extension effectively sits in a slot.

I did try metal on one side instead of a magnet. In practice though I found the metal to magnet attachment weaker than the magnet to magnet, requiring the magnets to be doubled on the non-metal side. So overall no saving in magnets.

FWIW, there's a Zero Zephyrs kit here -

The far right lean-to shell has now been fabricated. This central module is now really starting to take shape and is oozing character (and windows).

It's also now showing the issue I'm going to have with painting and finishing... A lack of access, particularly in these backyard areas.

IMG_20230311_144028_1.jpg

Going to be tricky getting a paint brush in there.

Thank you for finding that, I have however got more than enough GWR 1366ness on my hands with this one:
