I'm quite amazed at this photo!! It's certainly Pannier shaped - is Sir not feeling well?? :D

Well....

There's a story behind this loco...

When moving over to 7mm 10 years ago I looked around for an easy to build introductory loco kit. As the layout was based in North Cornwall on ex-LSWR lines, a 1366 was on the shortlist.

I looked at the example on the Agenoria stand, all built up and rotating in a display cabinet, and was assured it would be a great first build.

When I made a start on the kit, it was quite a naive one, and I assumed, quite incorrectly, that the parts would all be the right size, look like the real thing and go together well.

How stupid was I?

It soon became apparent that half the parts, particularly the castings, were off completely different locos, oh and the etched parts were worked from several different drawings, each using different measurements for the same dimension.

You could build it but the end result was done way off the prototype in key areas. Cylinders, frames, motion, boiler fittings, cab and tank width etc etc. A truly rubbish kit for a beginner.

I got so far with it but then realised that making something below the running plate that looked like the real thing was well beyond my skillset. The whole thing was nearly binned.

Simon came to the rescue and did battle. To the very last the 1366 put up a good fight but eventually Simon won through. It's now back to me to finish off the body...

The loco will work on the clay branch of my Pencarrow layout.

By chance, last week, I found the article I wrote about my 1366 pannier when I built it some twenty years back. It’s not complimentary about the kit design. And it’s not the same kit…

A little early but trying to get ahead of the mass rush at midnight... Happy New Year to all those that have dropped in to see me not doing a lot over the past year. A huge thank you to those that have generously given their time and skills to help make things I can't - very much appreciated. See you in 2025!

I'm pondering....

This is the right side (front) of the layout as originally planned:

The front two buildings are both based on structures on the Wenford branch. One, a variation on the stores at Helland bridge Wharf, the other Gwendreath Cottages near Dunmere junction.

My pondering concerns whether to amend this scene and remove the Hellandbridge Wharf store building and move the cottages further left away from the bridge.

The bridge is just a card mockup and the girder section will be based on the ones near Bodmin North. The Cardell Road bridge near the station has long gone but can be seen in the snips below.

The one further away carrying Berrycoombe Hill road is still there and will be used as the template.FB_IMG_1671113081723~2.jpg
