Quiet on the actual doing any modelling front for a bit but last Sunday I did attend the RMweb members day down in Taunton along with many others who inhabit both forums.

Unlike last year when I took one of the Pencarrow boards down on a day trip, this year I decided to make a weekend of it. On Saturday I enjoyed a trip on the WSR up to Minehead and back, then a visit to Taunton MRC's clubroom, followed by a crafty pint in a brewery tap house before a very enjoyable meal amongst fellow nutters. Pudding was taken back at the tap house, say no more...

Beautiful blue skies after a somewhat blustery journey down the M42 and M5.

It was a bit bracing though...

Would have been rude not to have partaken in chips and cider at Minehead, and the coach window kept the seagulls off.

Close up inspection of Bath Green Park at Taunton MRC with great hospitality.

Good range of beer, I settled on the Plastered Pheasant.

Meal then pudding...

rps20190427_230219.jpg
I am a believer...

rps20190427_230407.jpg Visit was educational

The locals then did something called dancing.

For some reason this is the only photo I have of the members day on Sunday...

Fellow demonstrator Mark. He certainly achieved more than me but, to be fair, I did ably demonstrate pasty and cake eating.

Sort of got sidetracked in the last post...

On the Sunday I took down some of the Pencarrow buildings in various stages of completion and did a considerable amount of finger pointing and talking. As ever when demonstrating, very little actually got done.

Another thing I took down with me was the 1:435 mock up of the layout to show where things went. The illustrious Captain Kernow enjoyed playing with the 1:435 scale Pencarrow considerably (it also has stock mock ups to move around and a bus for the bridge).

There was however a sudden realisation that the addition of the wharf buildings to the 1:43.5 Pencarrow post-date the mock up. They needed adding....

I'm pleased to say that that job has now been done. Fanfair....

IMO they do sit nicely with the similarly aged wobbly grain store and finish that corner off nicely.

As pointed out by CK, the baby mock up is very close to T scale. Very tempting to get sidetracked and lay some proper track....

I did mention in the 8750 ashpan thread that I'd make that missing item today.

Well... I got the Minerva Pannier out of the box, then decided to go through my photo collection for shots of 4666 (the devil's pannier), then got sidetracked in domestic duties.

Not done much on the ashpan but have located a dozen or so photos of the loco in the Bodmin / Wadebridge area. This started me off making a list of all the things to do to the out of the box loco to make it 4666.

First off was fitting the bunker side steps. Holes drilled in the bunker, prongs on the step etch rounded off and the etch glued into place.

rps20190504_210937.jpg

Two more to do on the tank fronts.

Next thing I decided to sort was the long handrail on the tank sides. The model has a rather large kink in the rail to pass over a pipe. Looking at photos I decided the kink needed to be a lot more subtle.

rps20190504_210911.jpg
As was on the left, flattened on the right. I did want the flatter kink to me more abrupt and round but the wire is a real s0d to bend so I cut my losses.

Next up ate the pipe runs. 4666 seems to vary from those provided in the add on set. Typical...

Nice to have found you again Chris, not seen much on Pencarrow on the other side.
A second from me for Narrow Planet for custom plates. Stephen has done quite a few for Talyllyn, including the Tunnel commemorative sign.

David ;)

Hi David, yes I decided to limit my layout / modelling updates to just one forum and went for the quieter one which has a higher percentage of 7mm content. I still post the occasional social post and watch a few threads though.

I've already a batch of plates done by Narrow Planet for 1368, 4666, 4569 and 30200. There are a few other signs for the layout I'll get them to do.

Nice to see you posting here too. After customising the Pannier I need to pluck up the courage to weather it. The stuff you do is very inspirational.

I'm starting to consider that myself. There is more modelling content hereabouts and I'm conscious that I am posting more here than on t ' other forum.

I've had some 4mm number plates from Narrow Planet in the past, they are rather good.

Great to catch up last weekend too.

Regard,

Good to catch up with you to Brinkley old fruit.

Detailing 4666 continues at snails pace.

Mods required are as follows:
rps20190506_121817.jpg
Red: kink in the vac(?) pipe which it appeared to gain some time prior to 1962.
Blue: extra pipe not included on the Minerva model. I presume on others it goes behind the tank support. But where does it head once behind the tool box?
Green: the pipe has a return kink missing once below the footplate.
Also noticeable in the photos are the lamp iron brackets near the tool box that are different handed to the Minerva model.

rps20190506_121553.jpg
I've bent the vac pipe and put on a collar out of plasticard. The recesses in the footplate near the cab entry have been added, as well as rebates to the pipe from the injector(?).

Just goes to show that there is still scope to improve state of the art RTR to give a better representation of your chosen prototype.
The backwards J shaped pipe to/from the moulded injector looks a bit plasticy and two dimensional (in the photo), were you planning to replace that?

GWR 0-6-0 ST and PT back in the day had one injector on the fireman's side and one injector on the driver's side... similarly for the water control cock. At some point in the production of the 8750 locos, probably with either the 3600 or 3700 series, the arrangement was changed so that the water control cocks were both on the fireman's side... your photo shows one injector and two water cocks. The blue pipe runs from a water cock on the fireman's side to an injector on the driver's side and is routed in front of the firebox front plate.

It's actually a very good match for the prototype. It looks like it has flash seams top and bottom but they actually match the prototype. No idea what the 'flash' is though.

That’s why you’re better at this sort of thing than I am. I’d have chopped the pipe off first assuming it was wrong, then gone looking at prototype photos and found it was right
