Thanks for yours, Roger. @Roger Pound . I'm pleased to oblige!

Also Martin @Martin Shaw. That's additional info I'll add to the files.

Back to English shores now.

We last saw this loco at London Bridge in post #4417. Here it’s at Brighton on shed with a 73B, Bricklayers Arms shed plate. E6 32418 was allocated to Bricklayers Arms in April 1958, moved to Brighton in May 1961 and withdrawal in December 1962. (SLS). It was seen along with other withdrawn locos at Hove Goods Yard on 29th December 1962 (SLS) and was recorded there from December 1962 until May 1963 (WHTS) and was cut up at Eastleigh Works week ending 6th July 1963. (RO).

Two here of C2X 32450 at Brighton Loco on shed, possibly on the breakdown train on 9th January 1960. The loco was allocated to Redhill in June 1956 and Norwood Junction in November 1960 where it was withdrawn in November 1961 (SLS) or June 1961 (BR Database). It was scrapped at Ashford (WHTS) in November 1961. (BR Database).

K Class 2-6-0 32350 at Brighton Shed on 9th January 1960. It was allocated to Three Bridges in May 1949 and withdrawn in November 1962. (SLS). It was seen at Eastleigh MPD alongside others awaiting scrap on 20th January 1963 (SLS) and the Railway Observer advises the loco was scrapped at Eastleigh in the week ending 16th February 1963.

H Class 0-4-4T 31530 on shed at Brighton on 9th January 1960. The loco was allocated here in June 1959, then Tunbridge Wells West in February, Tonbridge in March and Three Bridges in December 1961 or January 1962 and then withdrawal in March 1962. (SLS). It was scrapped at Ashford in week ending 31st March 1962. (RO). In the background is E4 32475 seen recently in post #4639.

The picture of the C2X on an old breakdown coach is very atmospheric to me. In the heat of an afternoon back in 1960, I was in a similar position beside an elderly MR clerestory, in use at our shed as a breakdown van, just soaking up the detail on the bogies. It has probably happened to thousands of enthusiasts since the early days of railways.

It is a matter of regret, Larry @LarryG that I never photographed the breakdown trains when I had the opportunity.

Britannia 70007 Coeur de Lion on a down fast train from Stratford Station on 9th January 1960. At the time it was a Norwich Thorpe engine where it was allocated in May 1951, March in December 1961 and Carlisle Kingmoor in December 1963 where it was withdrawn in June 1965. (SLS). It was scrapped at Crewe Works in July 1965. (BR Database).

Two photos of N7 69725 at Stratford Low Level Station on a local train to North Woolwich on 9th January 1960. This was allocated to Stratford by at least January 1948 (BR Database) and withdrawn in September 1962 (SLS) being finally scrapped at Stratford Works (Yeadons) although the date when this was completed is unknown.

Liverpool Street Station and a local train to Enfield hauled by N7 69719 on 9th January 1960. The loco was allocated to Stratford in November 1953 and withdrawn there in November 1960. (SLS). It was scrapped at Stratford (RO) but I have no date.

Fairburn 2-6-4T 42134 on a St Pancras local to Bedford on the last day of steam suburban services, 9th January 1960. The loco was just coming to the end of its time at St Albans where it had been from new in January 1950 and it moved to Cricklewood at the end of January and Neasden in May 1960, Heaton Mersey in December 1961, Barrow in Furness in July 1965 and Tebay in December 1966 where it was withdrawn in April 1967. (SLS). It was scrapped in December 1967 (BR Database) at Motherwell Machinery and Scrap, Wishaw. (RO).

Double headed unidentified Black 5 and a possible Royal Scot at Mill Hill Station with an up express on 9th January 1960. Tim records the Royal Scot as 46163 Civil Service Rifleman although as it appears to have been a WCML loco for nearly all its life (before going to the GCR) that description has to be treated with some suspicion. If the identification is correct it was a Preston loco and had been since September 1959. It went to Crewe North in April, Holyhead in July and Llandudno Junction in September 1960, then Holyhead in April 1961, Willesden in June 1962 and finally Annesley in February 1963 where it was withdrawn in August 1964. (SLS). It was scrapped at Bird’s, Risca (RO) and seen on the way there at Newport Ebbw Junction on 7th March 1965 (WHTS) although BR Database proposes a scrap date of February 1965.

I had read about the local steam services out of St.Pancras and so when I was invited to stay with one of my parents in St.Albans, it was disappointing to find the hydraulic DMU's had taken over. From your caption above, I was 10 months too late! That said, the DMU's were very fast AND King's Cross had much to offer the enthusiast in 1960.

I remember going from Mill Hill to Luton with my parents on a steam hauled local, Larry, but the loco was a Fowler 2-6-2T.

B1 4-6-0 61000 Springbok from Stratford Station on a through parcels train on 9th January 1960. It was a Doncaster engine from the end of December 1959 moving to Colwick in July 1960 where it was withdrawn in March 1962. (SLS). It was cut up at Doncaster in the month of withdrawal. (BR Database).

Seen very recently in post #4725 and here taken from Stratford Station Britannia 70001 Lord Hurcomb travelling up light engine on 9th January 1960. The Britannia was allocated to Norwich Thorpe in February 1959, March in October 1961, Willesden March 1963, Aston in January and Carlisle Kingmoor in October 1964 where it was withdrawn in September 1966. (SLS). It was scrapped in December 1966 at Motherwell Machinery and Scrap, Wishaw. (BR Database).

K3 61939 at Stratford Station on an up troop special on 9th January 1960. The K3 was a Norwich Thorpe engine from January 1950, then Colwick in December 1960 and Sheffield Grimesthorpe in February 1962 where it was withdrawn in November the same year. (SLS). It was scrapped at Cashmore’s Great Bridge during 1963. (BR Database).

A particularly interesting pair of photographs of Stratford service loco, Y4 0-4-0T No 33, previously 68129 when in capital stock shunting at Stratford Works on 9th January 1960. BR Database advises the loco was introduced in January 1921 and withdrawn in December 1963 but that oversimplifies things a bit. In 1952, number 68129 was transferred to the Service (departmental) list and renumbered 33. Withdrawals started in 1955 with 68125, with 68127 and 68128 going in 1956 and 68126 in 1957. The last to be withdrawn was 33 on closure of Stratford Works in 1963 and although I can’t find a scrapping location I’ll assume that was Stratford and probably in 1963 or early 1964. The sources for this last info are many and various.

By way of contrast this is one of my dad's photos taken at Harlington in early 1960 (no leaves on the trees) of the then new diesel units for the Bedford - St Pancras suburban services. Also noteworthy are the new platforms built on the slow lines to accommodate these services and the new concrete wall on the road leading to the bridge. As far as I'm aware not all of the stations had platforms on the slow lines.
