Excellent stuff Rob, I enjoyed seeing it at Railwells and the chat with you and the spammers bloke!

Hi Phil,

Yes, good to see you and thankfully, it ran well despite Pencarrot getting the J70s confused with garden sheds. Once you accept the limitations that a layout like Ewe has, it's quite relaxing to operate.

In other news, the op on my hoof was done yesterday. It will be a little while before I can resume modelling activities and things are a tad uncomfortable at present as it's rather mummified. But, and it is early days, there does appear to be a reduction in the pins and needles in my arm/hand. I'll know more in a few days but there is what seems to be a definate improvement in the amount of feeling in my hand and fingers.

Rob.

"Naughty step" - somebody called? :)

It's actually out on the fire escape, out behind the Back of The Class, so there's plenty of them, some are more rusty than others.
There's talk of trying another punishment, the Tray of Kneeling Gravel. to be located at the Front of The Class so that reprobates can be educated in the ways of the Serious Squad at the same time as receiving Correction for the error of their Box-opening ways.
The wearing of short trousers will be obligatory.

Morning all,

Nice to see the thread trundling on. Railwells was a damn fine weekend away, made all the more interesting by trying to keep NotenoughPanniers out of trouble......but we were the last to leave The Crown on both nights........so maybe it wasn't entirely his fault......

Thanks for the retrospective of the construction of EWE Rob a wonderful bit of layout modeling.
Michael

Thanks Michael. That's very kind of you. I think I covered the salient points in development as things progressed. I hope that this may encourage others to have a go at a layout by demonstrating that a usable layout, albeit a simple one, can be knocked together in relatively quick time..

What I found interesting, looking at the dates of the images, was that between August '21 and the end of November, there was a fair amount of progress. I retired from the day job at the end of November and things stopped for a bit, until January '22. I really kicked back........then I remembered Ewe was being exhibited at the end of April and I got a bit of a wiggle on, hence lots of images in March and April.

I am of course looking forward to getting stuck into the next layout which I will, once the hand is a bit more usable. Given the current rate of progress, I'm hoping that will be this time next week.

Afternoon all,

First bit of post op model railway related activity completed today. Tinkered with a SE&CR P class, body removed, DCC decoder popped in and reassembled. Tested on EWE. Nice runner and certainly looks the part with a couple of 4 wheel coaches.

Must, say, still seems rather bright after years of 1950s BR modelling !

On the subject of the P class, 178 and the other Hattons example, 753, will both require their buffers changing. As supplied they have the later Southern pattern parallel shank buffers as preserved. Hattons thoughtfully provide original tapered, SE&CR, pattern buffers with each.

Given the complexities of the livery etc, I'll wait until my hoof is definitely working before tackling the swap.

They do look good and the livery is very well applied. The one thing that never seems to work on RTR models is all the brass bits... They either are way too shiny or too dull. Do you have any plans to do anything with these bits on this loco?
