Morning all,

Well, there is a little bit to do but here's a view of Sheep Dip's new location, opposite Ewe. A bit more elevated than Ewe's perch by some 15cm which places Sheep Dip just below sheep eye level.

View attachment 201029

Here we see more of the revised, actually new, Desk of Doing which is some 50cm longer than the old, improvised one.

I'm actually enjoying the unclutterment. It is something which I accept hasn't always been succesfully managed but I feel more inclined to start on something walking into the room as it looks.

As I say, I've still got jobs to do. Sheep Dip needs connecting up and there are a few more books to move in and bits and bobs to rehouse. But for now, I'm quite enjoying being able to plonk myself down with a cup of coffee and flick through a comic or book or simply just look around.

Sorting the Room of Doom is one of the best things I've done in relation to railway modelling.

Rob.
It’s a great joy, having a comforting haven. May it be an energising and supportive space for you.

Cheers

My room of doom and the workshop are about to get the same treatment. I've hired a storage room to move all my stock for the business and all completed layouts to go into. Down side is I have to give up the large spare room and move into the box room as my lad is having the larger room.

Hi Rob,
I am sure I have missed it somewhere,
but what is the name of the bookcase units you have used in your refurbishment?
Many thanks.

Hi Rob,
Many thanks you your prompt response!
Looking forward to seeing more of your room of doom, always interesting to see what layouts, models and books modellers have on their shelf!

So a nice hour passed by. You just cannot beat the relaxation this hobby provides.

Hello Rob
Agreed. Although I’m a way off the the excellently executed rewards of bucolic wagon-bothering that you can revel in, I think giving ourselves the moment to lose ourselves is a very satisfying - and necessary - gift.

Cheers

Mine drives me mad....:headbang::rolleyes: :D

The 08 Diesel looks neatly oiled and weathered Rob.

Morning Larry,

That's kind of you to say so. The 08 runs very nicely as well. As to the hobby itself, don't get me wrong, I have my moments of utter frustration, I had one last night trying to work out why a previously well running loco ( not the 08 ) suddenly came out of it's box in a sulk and ran poorly.........

Morning Jan.

Again, thank you. I was, perhaps not entirely unexpectedly, in the RofD last night, pottering away. Radio on, Memsahib tucked up next door reading, Memsahib Minor attending to some last minute 'overlooked' homework.

Again, I shuffled a few wagons about, tried a couple of different locos ( see above ! ) and got a couple of books out.

I cannot believe the change sorting this room out has made.

One other thing is that the new table is big enough to map out the new layout's scenic section full size so that again is quite handy.......though I do like taking over the dining table............

Evening all,

It's been a busy couple of weeks really. The Room of Doom is being used and is, as expected, proving to be just as good as intended.

All three of the J15s intended for the new project have been tweaked using Bachmann decoders and have been tested on Ewe. At least two will receive more attention to produce examples specific to the Mid Suffolk Light Railway. Probably those identities will be Middy regulars 65447 and 65459.

Of the Mid Suffolk project itself, there will be a delay in it's start. Rather unexpectedly, I've been called in, some six months earlier than previously advised, to go under the knife. The plan is to operate on my right hand to try and alleviate the numbness/pins and needles I've been suffering from since early 2021. Things have picked up thanks to the consultant progressing things apace, which is great as both hands have gotten worse over the last 12 months making dealing with small bits and bobs tricky at times. If succesful, they'll have a go at the as affected left hand, once the right has healed. So, with a little under a week to go, I'm loathe to start anything new project wise. Once done, it will pretty much write off any modelling before Christmas, if the previous identical op/ recovery was anything to go by.
I hold no concerns over the op itself, having had both hands done before. If however there is little or no improvement, there's no point in tinkering with the left as the root of problem will lie elsewhere, an opinion agreed with the Consultant.

In any event, I'll know very soon after the op which way we're heading so fingers crossed (!)

But.....I have a trainset to build after Christmas which, if things go according to plan, could well be out at shows by July or August next year. Doable but hurried as I will not take it out in an unfinished state.
On the subject of shows, both Sheep Dip and Ewe have invites, including a show new to me and a couple of tentatives which also will involve pastures new. I'll update as we go along.

In the meantime, I can at last make a start on formally organising SWAG'24 which once again will be at the end of April in Taunton. Details of that will follow, probably in a couple of weeks but safe to say we have some nice layouts coming along on the day.

So, there's a bit to be going on with.

Rob.

Hi Rob,

Good news on the hand front, but bad news on the modelling front.

Wishing you well with the first op, and hopefully the 2nd will be just around the corner, in the new year.

Morning all,

Not much to report other than a rather relaxing session playing trains........er.......operating Sheep Dip last night. Accompanied by a glass of red ( for those interested in such things, Jamshed Malbec ) an hour or two was passed gently worrying wagons. Damn civilised it was to. I was pondering an addition or two as I always like to add something to a layout, however small, before it's next outing. I have a few ideas....

Here then is a view from last nice. A Hornby Peckett in all it's bucolic splendour...ish.

Hope the op goes well Rob - maybe a few more medicinal glasses of Malbec required after to aid the healing…

New project sounds good - look forward to hear more about it at Taunton - will try and complete the forms this weekend.

Evening all,

I've finally consolidated the various photos I have taken of Ewe. They were dotted all over the phone and are now in one album.

As I did, a thought struck me that I had a pretty complete record of the build. So, I thought you fine types might like a evolutionary trip by taking a few photos from lots ( about 400 ! ).....Taken between August 2021 and October 2023.

Here goes........The image from Dr Ian C Allen that got the grey cells ticking.
