Getting there...

Brought the pillar drill up from the garage to save carrying the doors up and down. Got nice straight holes which meant all the handles fitted first time.

Doors lined up and marked to make sure the holes are drilled in the right corner.

Chris, how long is the space for the fiddle yard? I’m just trying to assess what length trains you can run. Anyway, it all looks smart with plenty of storage for all those unmade kits .

1.350m which is about 4' 6". Obviously it would be good to have a chunk more, particularly for the goods trains but walls sort of stop that ; -p

Trains won't be much more than a loco, pair of coaches and a van.

Very nice, I need some too. I see CRT now do brass Maunsells at £175. I wouldn't mind getting a P set from them. How they compare to Slater's I don't know.

Well Chris you have prompted me into buy storage trays & boxes for the man cave yesterday
as for fitting a lock you can use the excuse it will keep to young one's out of the room when
they visit.

Somehow the space is 50mm longer than I was expecting...

Storage for large sheets of board!

Are the main boards held in place by weight and gravity? I wonder if small shallow lips (one or two per board) on the rear beam would be prudent on which to hook the rear of the baseboard over. This would prevent the entire board/boards accidentally being dragged off. Or does staging/fiddle yard board effectively lock the layout in position?

Don't forget you will need a bit of wiggle room to separate the boards when you are installing or removing them. I found this out the hard way when I tried to set up my 12ft long US layout along my 12ft long bedroom wall. :) I just manage it by removing the end backscene boards which just gives enough room to clear the dowel pins on one end board which is enough to get all the boards on and off.

After seeing the photos on CRT's website I would go for Slaters as the tumblehome is more consistent along the length of the body and the profile is accurate where the flattened brake compartment side meets the carriage tumblehome.

Slaters kits 7C023 and 7C027 will make up P sets 179, 180, 199 and 200. More info here at SEMG online: http://www.semgonline.com/coach/maunco99.html

I've seen CRT's 'Thanet' set and was not overly impressed as the tumblehome flattened towards the centre of the coach.

I'm allowing about 15mm fit wiggle room at the end. That's more than enough to disengage the dowels on the board ends.
