Ah, yes, a daughter. Useful.

MissD was very helpful building the understructure for PD, and whenever I needed to pull it out for access behind. Trouble is, she’s now gone off to study, so MrsD will have to help when I get round to doing the scenic towards the back of the layout.

And the downside of that is that all the furniture needs to be moved, so she’ll have to sit in chaos whilst I fettle, make a noise, and make a mess. I was inclined to do that whilst MrsD was out, and MissD was inclined to disappear off to her bedroom, once we’d totally devastated the living room, so didn’t mind...

Chris as you have put the cupboard units onto carpet have you connected them
together at the front ? I use to when installing a kitchen as a matter of cause,
screws can be hidden under the hinges to make a smart job clamp the cupboards
together and drill a pilot hole where the screw is going to go and use a 1" screw and
make sure you have set the legs so the kick panel fits before loading with any weight.
(offer up the screw before driving it in to make sure it's not over size.)

This all looks very nice, Chris.

I think the key moment will be the removal into cupboards and behind doors of all the loose stuff on top of the layout.
Once clear, you should play trains for a bit, even if all areas not powered as yet..

Perhaps you could sit and contemplate the layout with a glass of port. I am a fan of contemplating with port. Some of my best port has been had whilst contemplating.

Sounds like an excellent idea Rob. Going to hit getting it all done hard this weekend. This I have a home for some of the old furniture too, so that should clear a bit of space. Will be good to have plenty of storage space under the layout in which to put stuff tidily away. Will have to fill the cupboards before domestic authorities get any ideas!

Port o'clock? Contemplation ho!

Hi Bob,

The first three units are screwed together as you suggest. The rest will follow suit over the next few days. They sit in industrial grade carpet tiles which don't have much if any give in them. Kick panel will have a slight gap at the top 2-3mm to make getting them on and off easy. Space under is earmarked for safely storing out of harms way some long items needed later in the build...

If like me they become untidy very quickly. Then once in a while the tidying up takes ages as you find things you'd forgotten about so have a look see where you got. Then push it all back in again cos your wasting too much time.

Sounds like you need to move family and non-train content out of the living room Simon. Says he that's moving domestic stuff into the train room)

I bought 10 large (A4 base, 10" deep) boxes with lids from Poundland. I've tried to put the same stuff into the same box ( match paint pots in one, aerosol paints in another) but have run out of boxes and space. I also buy the multi packs of new Chinese-food containers for smaller items or open packets of grass/ ground cover.

These both stack well and do help to find stuff.

Sometimes.
