Hi Phil I messed up the transfers I've ordered two more wagons and some extra sheets but they will be the last two after that its an easy build BG I've painted some plasticard blue with a grey panel so that I can practice the lining with a bow pen there are some pictures on the Hartley Hill thread of some LNWR six wheelers I painted a few tears ago although they look better in the photos

I like the vans very much and the constructional approach is very neat (I'll certainly be copying it!). Just wonder if you need to get some Decasol/Decaset on those decals though as the film seems very visible. Is it particularly thick?

Steph[/quote]I hi Steph yes the film is very noticeable quite disappointing I'm hoping it will disappear when they are weathered they are press fix are there better ones

Most transfers need a gloss finish to set properly, I find. You might find they will improve with a coat of varnish before you weather the wagons.

As Heather says, decals sit best on gloss surfaces, I always used to apply Klear to my matt surfaces to smooth it out in the area of the decal and then Microsol to soften the decal whilst/once it was applied, yours look like they have small bubbles underneath which points to a less than smooth surface.

The beauty of Klear is that it is resistant to most if not all varnishes (grammar?) and I usually sprayed either a matt varnish over the top to blend it all in or an egg shell to give that light sheen, rarely ever used gloss.

But at the end of the day, under certain low angle lighting conditions you could still see the carrier film. Pressfix seem best and I've some Methfix, think that's what they are called, never used them before so should be an interesting journey.

No I haven't have I done something wrong .Theres still some transfers to do I've used the picture with the instructions

No John, Nothing wrong. I find a pic of the wagon i'm building & try to copy the look, EG Faded paint, extra paint, added extra bits, same number, etc etc.

I first research the particular wagon, on Paul Bartlett's site (for example), then try to copy what it looks like. ;)

Steve

John,

While at the NRM at Shildon on Tuesday I took a few photos of the underside of the NER hopper wagon that they have on display are they of any use? If so I will post them.

Robin, very nice pictures. I like especially the tread plates incorporated into the buffer stock - and the "NER" within the top surface.

By any chance, might you have photographed the adjacent wagon, the was "modern-day-equivalent"?

regards, Graham

Thanks Graham, sadly not but I am a fairly frequent visitor so I could take some in the future - the HEA/HGA (sorry I cannot remember which it was)?

Strangely it's pictures of the inside that are rare

I agree, but I couldn't work out a way to get up high enough to take them without getting thrown out....

There are 2 or 3 at Goathland too, they are not really accessible either but thinking about them has given me an idea of someone who might have access.

Are we thinking about the same S7 modeller?

I think that you mean HAA... the last time I was in Shildon (the week before S&D150) those things were being built still, I think that all are now out of revenue service.
