I'm with Roger @Roger Pound on this one. Any debate about colour and the accuracy thereof seems to have considerable legs! For that reason if for no other I'll retire gracefully (!) and put up some more photos. Lovely to have the site back, isn't it?

BR Database advises 58XX 0-4-2T 5810 had been allocated to Croes Newydd since at least June 1947. It was withdrawn in January 1959 (SLS). It was then recorded in the scrapyard at Swindon along with 4261 (above) on 31st May 1959 (SLS) and scrapped in August the same year. (BR Database).

H15 4-6-0 30489 at Fratton Shed on 14th June 1959. This was reported in store at Eastleigh in August 1950 and whilst there’s no reinstatement date the loco was not withdrawn until January 1961. (SLS). The Locoshed Book for November 1959 gives the allocation as Nine Elms. It was cut up at Eastleigh week ending 18th March 1961. (RO).

30489 Salisbury 5/14, Nine Elms 3/15, Eastleigh 8/50, Nine Elms 11/50, Wdn 1/61, Cut up Eastleigh 11/3/61. I suspect the "stored" at Eastleigh was in fact awaiting works as it had a GO including a boiler change 7/50 - 9/9/50, I think there are some date variations that don't add up.

Thanks for filling in the details about 30489, Martin @Martin Shaw. Although I only ever saw them at the end of their lives the H15s in all their variety were a favourite of mine. Purposeful looking locos I always thought.

A1X 32677 near Havant Station on a Hayling Island to Havant train on 14th June 1959. The loco was allocated to Fratton in June 1949, then Ashford in October 1951 and back to Fratton in March 1953 where it was withdrawn in September 1959. The SLS report it at Eastleigh MPD, on shed but out of use, in October and still there in January the following year. At the time it was recorded the SLS advised that 32646 and 32661 had received 71A shed plates but not 32677 which was “in a poor state”. BR Database propose a scrap date of May 1960.

At Havant Station and two photos of A1X 32661 light engine and on a Havant to Hayling Island train on 14th June 1959. The loco had been in and out of store Fratton since at least 1955 and was withdrawn in April 1963. (SLS). In January 1960 it was recorded at Eastleigh MPD when the SLS advised that 32646 and 32661 had received 71A shed plates. The Railway Observer report it arrived at the works in April 1963 and on 12th May it was in the Works Yard at Eastleigh. On 7th September again in the Works Yard but this time awaiting scrap (SLS) although BR Database report scrapping in June 1963. WHTS agree that it was still at the works in September.

Already withdrawn from Nine Elms where it had lived since June 1953 was King Arthur 30778 Sir Pelleas. It was withdrawn there in May 1959 (SLS) and is here at Eastleigh Shed. Despite the generally smart appearance it was without couplng rods or motion and doubtless on the way to the works and the scrap men’s torch on 14th June 1959. It was indeed scrapped at Eastleigh during week ending 19th September 1959. (RO).

Now I was going to say that Mk1 non corridor surely has to be the "famous" plastic S1000S that worked on Hayling Island. But it wasn't "created" until 1962, so can't be.

It looks like a Mk1 long underframe 10 compartment second of which the SR had nineteen, S46280-98. Most of them were used on the services centred around Exmouth, a couple on the West london Line, and a few other odds and sods, and obviously Hayling Island. They all went to the WR eventually who had the other long underfame ones.

The train with 32661 leaving Hayling Island (probably) appears to be SR Bulleid set no. 978 comprised of S2871S (leading), S5724S and S2872S, withdrawn December 1963 – assuming set formation didn't alter. However, the window pattern of the middle coach(CK) doesn't match the closely-numbered S5726S.
Although "Blood and Custard" website says:
"Set 978 was used on the Hayling Island branch between 1959 and 1962 albeit as a 2-Cor set often sandwiched between two loose Mk1 non-corridor seconds; the other BSK (from set 978) being employed as a Loose coach. "

The rear coach is the afore mentioned Mk1 second and not a Bulleid vehicle. I have found that the four Mk1 seconds allocated to Hayling Island between 58/59 and 63 were S46284/91-93, each pair sandwiching a Maunsell brake nos, 6697/99. At some time, poss 62, S1000S replaced S46284, after Hayling closed the Mk1s ended up in the Kenny Belle.

Thanks, Martin.
From the Hayling Island photos on the Blood & Custard website, it seems that the train is leaving Havant, as the position of the water tower and curve of the track, matches that direction of travel.
In the 1970s, my brother started (and never finished) a model of Hayling Island, which I helped with. I was a bit doubtful that the 32661 train was at H. Is., as I didn't recall a "giant" water tower being part of the layout plan.

The CK looks like the corridor side of the middle coach of a BRCW 3 set to me.

All the comments on the coaching stock are much appreciated and incorporated in the commentary attached to the photos. I was well aware of the connection of S1000S to the branch and noticed that it wasn't there. Thank you all. And Barry @Barry37 - you'll note that I've changed the commentary for that photo by way of an edit so thanks for that as well.

Original Battle of Britain 34074 46 Squadron at Eastleigh Shed on 14th June 1959. This was an Exmouth Junction engine and had been since February 1958 . It went in to store in May and was withdrawn in June 1963. (SLS). On 11th September it was recorded at Eastleigh waiting works or scrap (SLS) and was despatched week ending 30th May 1964. (RO).

T9 30724 being dismantled at Eastleigh Shed on 14th June 1959. Note M7 30481 in the background. 30724 was at Basingstoke in October 1952, Guildford in January 1959 and was withdrawn in May the same year. (SLS). BR Database confirms a scrap date of June 1959.

30481 had been at Eastleigh since June 1951 and was withdrawn in May 1959. (SLS). BR Database confirms this was scrapped in June 1959 too.

At Southampton Station Original West Country 34007 Wadebridge on a Southampton to Bournemouth train on 14th June 1959. This loco was allocated to Nine Elms in April, went in to store there in October and was reinstated in December, all in 1951, before going to Salisbury where it was withdrawn in October 1965. It was sent to Woodham’s at Barry and see 34007 Wadebridge (SR 21C107, BR s21C107 & 34007) for further details.

Seen previously in post #3913 is BR Standard 2-6-0 76057 at Southampton Station on an excursion from the west on 14th June 1959. The loco was allocated to Redhill in June 1955 and Bournemouth in November 1959 and withdrawn in October 1966. (SLS).It was scrapped in July 1967 at Cashmore’s, Newport.

An interesting observation about the T9, Larry. I guess there was a technique in scrapping a loco although probably not a process as we'd understand it today. The best and safest way was probably one of those things taught by example.

Merchant Navy 35019 French Line CGT. seen previously in post #2865 and here at Southampton Station on the down Bournemouth Belle on 14th June 1959. It had been a Nine Elms engine since 1948, going to Weymouth (Radipole) in September 1964 where it was withdrawn a year later. (SLS). It ended up at Cashmore's, Newport where it was scrapped in January 1966.

Tim records this as at Southampton but it’s almost certainly Eastleigh Shed. I’ve no reason to doubt the date, though, given as 14th June 1959. Note the “Leave Here” chalked on the nearest buffer. This is 30850, Lord Nelson itself which had been an Eastleigh engine since January 1949 and was withdrawn in August 1962. (SLS). However the SLS recorded it at Eastleigh and out of use on 5th September 1961, then Fratton on 8th August 1963 and finally, in the company of other engines destined for the National Collection, at Stratford Works Old Erecting Shop on 24th October 1964. Details thereafter are at 30850 Lord Nelson (SR E850, SR 850 & BR 30850)

Z Class 0-8-0T 30952 at Eastleigh Shed when ex-works on 14th June 1959. It was on this date that the loco was allocated to Exmouth Junction and it was then withdrawn in November 1962. (SLS). It was scrapped in January 1965 at Cashmore’s, Newport. (BR Database).

T9 4-4-0 30289 was previously in post #366 with a commentary which I would now construe as pretty much entirely incorrect! Such is the benefit of being advised of better sources of data. Here it’s with brother 30300 at Eastleigh Shed on 14th June 1959. Narrow cab 30289 was allocated to Eastleigh in February 1951 and withdrawn in November 1959. (SLS). BR Database suggests that it was physically scrapped immediately and the Railway Observer confirms that it was scrapped at Eastleigh in the week ending 14th November 1959. wide cab 30300 was allocated to Salisbury in February where it was stored in April and reinstated at Eastleigh in December, all in 1951. It was withdrawn in March 1961. (SLS). Ultimately it was scrapped at Eastleigh in week ending 29th April 1961. (RO).
