The ballast is hardly down and the weeds are taking over..........:confused:

Taking the oppotunity of easy, level and all round access to the trackwork before the buildings and details over the boundary fence start springing up has seen me gainfully employed this evening giving our carefully lain and ballasted track a less than cared for look!.

Still some way to go (not to mention another half of the layout to do) but you get the gist that this is to be an area where the line is definately in its autumn years..........

Mind for all it looks unkempt it is in no way as bad as the weed growth on our other layout Hospital Gates............ I am showing some degree of restraint this time I will have you know! (and using period shots of the prototype such as the one posted of Cannon Street earlier in the thread for reference).

Progress to date, the post is made and painted, and ready for fixing as are the lampman's landing and safety hoop, the later needs a little attention to make it truely round. Thanks also to "Daifly" for providing the artwork, and "Broadsword", for printing out the Stop Board.

Bit of a disaster this evening we were so busy we forgot the tea and cakes............:eek:

Still on the modelling side the rest of the current trackwork gained its weed coverage.........

Including some longer and thicker examples in a seldom used siding (which would have once being the line to a local laundry.

Colin also had most of the mockups with him for the buildings along the layouts frontage thus the opotunity was taken to set them out and mark their positions along with that for the pavements where we could.

Which also enabled us to visualise the front of the model so as to see if it looks ballanced from the intended viewers perspective.

The workshop on the left is the early stages mockup for the small building which still exists in the area which I posted a shot of earlier in this thread. (the real building was long the home of a local plumbing and electrical contractor).

The terrace and fishshop buildings in their intended locations..........the small building to the rear of the fish shop is the remains of the original outbuildings to the bombed original......... we are also looking at including the remains of the foundations and an air raid shelter in this area (the latter of brick construction and based on one of several examples still extant in back gardens around here.....used as sheds!).

Hope that this coverage of this slow build isnt boring you all!

Major error report!! WOT - no tea and cakes. You'll be drummed out of the Brownies.

No chance of boring me, at least. As one who has no layout this is a most interesting build. In fact, maybe I'll start a layout if I can have the mock up buildings after you've finished with them.......

The ladder and its stays are now in place, as always the camera shows up any faults. To the eye the ladder looks perfectly straight and true, but not so, and a bit of adjustment called for. I had intended to make and fit the lamp bracket tonight, but something more important as cropped up. There's always tomorrow.

The "Stop Board" is now nearing completion, the next job is to either source or make a H&B style finial. The paint needs touching in and weathering. I made the lamp from brass bar, cross drilled for the lens and then filed to shape. The "lens was turned on the lathe.

back on the tea ad biccies this evening I am happy to report.

With marking out on the board for the position of all the structures that have already been passed as being included along the frontage. Plus much discusion over the various details and figures needed for same (including the likely fixtures and fittings needed around a domenstic coal yard and design of coal lorry to feature on a layout set around 1967).

On other matters the result of last sessions weeding and track weathering has dried well....

..and thanks to tonights discussion the trackside will soon be gaining this attrative but simplistic design of platelayers hut (with matching privvy) - which we think looks more subtle than the standard prefab concrete LNER one everyone else seems to use.

Rippers, here is another view of the "Brick Hut", and also just visible to the extreme right is the "Brick Built Karsie" you mention. I remember sitting in it best part of 35 years ago, and the shunter Maurice banging hell out of the door with his "Shunt Stick", Will you bloody well hurry up in there, I want to make a shunt".

Just a bit of thought over colouring and finish and removal of that strange cover on the turnours renders its Peco origins are hardly obvious. (we get similar comments regarding the trackwork on Hospital Gates and yet that is the same (asside from a handbuilt 3 way).
