That's a fraction of the waste I have stacked up - next time I pass the scrappie...

Me and an Ivatt and a WD will be at Telford... Saturday and maybe Sunday

I've been weathering for days 5 loco's, two coaches and 3 wagons on the go - yesterday started well, then quickly went downhill.

So I ended up stripping some of the weathering from 43155 and re-applying. I've spent this morning recovering lost ground and I'm back to where I want to be. She's a little sooty on top - but Colwick engines seem to have been pretty grubby most of the time.

After a most enjoyable weekend at Telford, I've been on my travels and I now have time to get back to modelling.
Some time was spent rounding up outstanding jobs and finishing stuff off, I rarely have more than one project on the go at any time, although they do overlap occasionally. The next project is to upgrade the running gear on a San Cheng Scot. So a collection of castings were obtained from Ragstone and Laurie Griffin.
The first task was to strip down and commence the heaviest engineering, to fit new motion brackets. The substantial Ragstone castings replaced the somewhat representational originals. Some packing out was required as the frames are quite narrow.

So today, the cylinders were blasted apart with my plumbing blowlamp ( I must save up for a Nimrod ) and then re-assembled with Ragstone components, with Griffin front covers.

There is a familiar name on the motion fret.

Then with a test fitting to the chassis - the original position seemed very low, so the whole cylinder block is about 2mm higher than before.

This is going to be interesting the San Cheng Tower stuff all seem to be let down below the running boards. Adding these lovely castings are going to be a big difference

Agreed. I have been collecting a few LG lost wax castings for injectors / pipework for my San Cheng 8F.

The rods look a bit toy-like - I stumbled across a set of Premier Components coupling and connecting rods at Telford and succumbed. I didn't do my homework to see if anyone else offers anything suitable - did I make a good choice?

It depends if you picked them up at the show or not...

If you didn't, you might be in for a wait... Took me about 6 months to get my J39 rods...!

Oh yes - I took them away with me. I am encouraged by your admission of a purchase from them…...

Only think I would say about them, is the fluting on the rods can be far from correct, but the ends could be filled and filed with some solder if they are nickel rods...

Hi Tony I have been looking at those motion bracket's for my Royal Scot, do you think that I would need to narrow them for S7?

Hi Len,
It would depend on your frame spacing/thickness, without modification the brackets are 15.1-15.2mm thick, Scots are 4'4" (30.333mm) over frames, 8'5 3/4" over edge angles, less a inch for (X2) thickness = 58.77mm, minus fames (30.333mm) = 28.437 /2 = 14.2185mm, so if your frames are no more than 28.4mm you'd be Ok , but if scale at 30.3mm you'd have to take about a mm out of them

Hi Andy the width with frames would be 29.625, so I would need to take a bit out of them. Sorry for hijacking your thread Tony. :)

Len

Hi Len,

The mounting flanges (see Tony's picture at post#625 ) are (+/-) 1.1mm thick, you might just lose enough by thinning them down, perhaps Tony can measure it for us?
