I'm at Pickering (NYMR) this Saturday.........hoping they are short of kettles again though so the diesels can come out to play

Not striclty area 51, but I havn't got a layout, or thread yet! My outside return loops for the Derby Line will be outside on an area of rubble topped by chippings, which was delivered yesterday. Unfortunately the lorry delivering said chipping got stuck in the garden and I had to phone the farm up the lane to send a tractor to pull it out. The extreme end of railway modelling!

I couldn't resist posting this, although none of the work is mine. The 04/8 was built by Allen Hammet for Dave Wellington, and is resting in a siding on the superb Nafferton layout built by Marcus Woodcock. The loco was built from the combination of a Gladiator 04/7 and DMR B1 parts. As it is so good, I have asked Allen to build me one! The guys are writing up the build for the Gazette I believe.

Hi Mike,

Built at Brighton for LNER, well you can't get everything right can you. Guilplates came up trumps with the worksplates because they are 4 lines on them rather than the usual two or three. They read LNER, BUILT, SR, 1944.

A Telford bargain and a rarity these days. Connoisseurs will recognise this as a Freightman LNER van with corrugated ends. I found this on the Excutor stand. It was a little rough, so I have dismantled it and started a rebuild. With new Parkside buffers among other things and an update to the BR era it will add some variety to all my LMS vans.

I'm sure that Fox transfers do the cabside stars, let me know if you have any trouble locating them as I am sure I have some in the workshop and I will post them on to you.

Tony, I'm sure I saw a website some time ago selling freight man van bodies ? They were and are great vans but few and far between now. The 8f looks grand, bet you can't wait to get her mucky! Any news on your 04/8?

Mick - I recall the Freightman site popping up, I think they might have acquired Frank Titman's remaining stocks. I don't recall seeing any NE vans in the list. I have a more than adequate stock of LMS sides. I tried to get a bulk order of underframes and brake gear from ABS, but that went nowhere... Anyway, I think I have enough kits to keep me going for a good few years...

It's all looking a little shabby at this point, with acrylic varnish protecting the transfers and that annoying residue that Pressfix transfers have - it has now been removed with meths. As the loco will be weathered I'm not to worried about it being immaculate.

I can't get a decent shot of the 04/8 as the light levels are so low with the constant rain, so later.

Also looking a bit shabby - but it will be alright on the night, is the NE van. I've scratched together some of the brake gear, and it's now well on the way to recovery..
