When working in Stratford on Avon some years ago I heard a comment something like 'Stow on the Wold where the wind is always cold'
Don't know if it true.

Well you could say that about tensionlocks - but as previously noted the Sheep layouts appear to be an exception, so I doubt anyone would notice or even suspect (unless the wind is such that everyone else's shirt is out).

I can think of a way, but on the subject of 4mm scale couplings I have less knowledge.
Mention was made of Kadee couplings before the wind (and me - apologies) blew us off course.
Does the 00 gauge type when installed using NEM pockets provide a nice close coupling?
I guess the 2mm scale version uses a smaller pocket, but might it have an application in 4mm to give closer more discrete fitment?
Maybe a 3-D printed adapter would allow 2mm unit use in a 4mm socket and tailoring of coupling length?

So with the exhibiting year done, I can now perhaps get going on my new projects.

Following Jonte's recommendations, yesterday I bought the required PECO Twistlock point motors to try out on Blackwater Pier, which I'm hoping to progress in the coming weeks.

After Christmas ( read immediately after ) I'll be ordering the boards from Grainge and Hodder for Flaxfield, hopefully for delivery around February.

Next year remains near enough devoid of show commitments and I intend to keep it that way with only a May trip to Stow on the Wold confirmed. Hopefully that leaves me with time to progress Flaxfield as I anticipate ( ) Blackwater Pier progresses ahead of it, allowing me to try out various new cool stuff in prep for the Flaxfield build.

Seemingly then, the game is ahoof...........

Well I for one, can’t wait to see what delights start to appear!

That's a good shout. I have a good selection of Kadee couplings and magnets. I did think of trialling these on Blackwater, following my experiences with Shwt. I did install them on Ewe but wasn't happy with the operation, mainly due to the fact that there is very little straight track on Ewe, certainly where the magnets needed placing.

There's certainly more work to be done with this.

On the other topic, there are always the options of cupboard doors, drop bottom doors, hopper bottoms, side tippers, end tippers, etc....Choosing whichever best suits one in one's dotage?

Evening all,

Ewe continues to provide a nice bit of relaxation and operation.

A recent acquisition are a couple of examples of Rapido's dinky little Y7. These are DCC Sound fitted jobs and despite a bit of negativity elsewhere, mine run very nicely.

Here's 68089, which finished it's days on the North Sunderland Railway, seen here shuffling about on Ewe.

This view is pretty much that which I have of Ewe from my perch at The Desk of Doing in The Room of Doom.

Morning all,

I've come to the end of what has been a busy period in the shop so I hope to have a bit more free time now.
Mindful that I only do two days a week, I've come pretty close to full time working over the last few weeks, which is not where I thought I would be.

However, that seems to have subsided now, so in between family stuff and finishing off the Crimbo present thing, I can hopefully make a start on Blackwater.

Now, a question if I may.

I intend to use DCC control for the locos. Points will be analogue. So bus bar for the DCC track feeds. No problem with that..
I am thinking of having a second bus for the point motors.
How best to do this ? A separate 16v transformer seems appropriate but I'd welcome a bit of discussion on this.

Remember, Blackwater only has three points so no need for a NASA standard installation !

A reminder of Blackwater Pier.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Rob,
Below is my "wiring diagram" for Dublingham. My DC busbar (same principle as a DCC busbar) was green/red with black power feeds to all the rail sections. Point motor wiring was the other colours.

But to answer the question, my Gaugemaster transformer has two outputs, one for track power (16v AC for DC feedback) and one for point operation (12v DC). I've since fitted a CDU, not shown.

Cheers
Tony
