I've been in Singapore this week on another business trip. On the flight out there I got a Whatsapp from S7 JB to say that Mickoo had found something really interesting for sale on the Ellis Clark website. So thanks to Mick and S7 JB this arrived while I was away.

It was a bit like a russian doll, with one thing inside another, no prizes for guessing whats inside.

Unfirtunately one of the cab windscreens had come away in transit

But it only took a few minutes to stick it back on with some canopy glue, this litle tool really helped too.

A stunning model which appears to be been made in 1998.

Nice model, the other OMI Dash 8 was UP, half the price and less but significantly lower quality (quite poor for an OMI to be honest) I suspect it came from an earlier batch and really didn't look the part to be honest.

This one, by far was the better of the two, pleased it went to a good home

There's still a 90/43, not a bad model and I was briefly tempted to grab it and hack it into CP latest 70ACu with new cab and other alterations, but then I'm still thinning out my O gauge stock.......

There's also a nice 70ACe but in heritage colours, it's a good price for one of the 'specials' especially in the UK and is the first I've ever seen for sale in the UK to boot.

I spent part of yesterday starting to weather the DRGW GP60, the idea is for it to look gently worn, no longer new but not battered and bruised.

This is where I have got to20231217_121702.jpg

So far it has been a case of gently spraying a mix of matt black with a bit of silver, then cleaning off the excess on the hand rails and steps etc.

Looking at the photos haa helped as I have missed a bit on the cab near the hand wheel, that should still come off, I hope.

I did the second stage of weathering yesterday, I'm trying to get a look like this

rg gp60 3155-1.jpg

This was taken in 1998 you really do need to enlarge it to appreciate all the details and subtleties

So stage 2 involved adding some more dark grey on the roof, spraying the bogies with some dirty brown colour (I use Phoenix track dirt very well thinned) then dry brushing with silver. I also added the grey around the 2 rear fans as per the photo. It's now starting to look the part.

One other thing I have been working on for a little while is the GP15 I have. It needs a better exhaust so I drew one up using photographs of real ones and images of some you can buy in HO, this is the result

20231222_100722.jpg

I did think that it might be tricky to get them off the supports but it actually wasn't. The base plate is so thin that it is a bit flexible so it doesn't break when you snap off the supports.

I have also been weathering my atlas GP35, as it is set in the 90s these were pretty dirty by then and the grey paint had started to fade quite a bit

It still needs dry brushingand some more details touching in, but it's getting there.

Top tip, make the base a bit thicker and then sand down on a sheet of glass (once cured) to the required thickness, it'll help with it being wavey as well.

People try to print the final product (Lego plug and play) and forget it's often better to design in some post processing to get better results.

Hi Mick

Yes I agree with your advice, but much to my surprise these have come off the supports OK and have filled flat without any problems.

I'm wondering if it is because they stayed on the supports for a few days after they were printed ?

Today has been busy, most of the time was spent building a control panel for the US layout, the first switch is operational the rest should follow tomorrow with some photos.

I was also doing quite a few other things as well as buying all the food for Christmas day, it was totally mad out there at 7:30am.

I did manage to dry brush the GP35 and add a bit of rust weathering powder.

The control panel is now operational

20231224_213549.jpg

There are 3 crossovers and one switch. Green signifies straight ahead and blue diverging. The LEDs are a bit brighter than expected.

This is it under construction.

20231224_114814.jpg

I used gorilla glue to fix the bits of copper clad to the hard board and to glue the LEDs in place. This is for tortoise motors using two 12 volt power supplies wired together to give a common bus that you can daisy chain between the motors. This then uses SPST switches to change one of the purple wires that goes to each crossover or switch.

I also now have 5 Trinity hoppers converted to P48. These are fitted with protocraft couplers, I did wonder if they would go round a 5 foot radius curve, but I'm glad to say that they do, so I'll be making more use of them.

20231224_213628.jpg

And no, trinity hoppers never appeared in Conrail or SP livery.

I'm back in the UK after a winter sun holiday with Emma. So I'm busy trying to finish a few things off.

I 3D printed some frame extentions for my Atlas GE dash 8 40b, these are the rear ones

20240110_155218.jpg

This is the front without them

20240110_155212.jpg

I just need to test the loco to make sure it will still go round corners.

I also found this weaver boxcar on UK Ebay just before Christmas. I have been able to fit some protocraft wheels tot he original bogies and some new coupling boxes.

I just need to weather it now.
