I still have a cardboard boxful of P48 33" and 36" wheelsets, most in original pack - swaps, or sales at 2nd-hand price (I dunno' either ...TBA).

Jason
Off Topic, but a gentle nudge - you should have some Intermountain wheelsets still as well, what some of us have wanted to buy for a while.... ;)

Hi Jordan, may I come and stand in the WT Naughty Corner with you please? Age and its inevitable punishments does take one by surprise eventually. Thanks for the 'gentle nudge'.

Anyway ... a long overdue Tuesday attendance at the WWOGG meet in Trowbridge cheered me up no end. Just seeing two D&H U23Bs with their longish manifest freight, another member's 0-6-0 Camelback and stock and 2 light Duchesses of Montrose side-by-side(!) did the trick, easily overcoming the dentist yesterday.

My wider problem with Nth American O in the UK is that I've been enjoying it for 50 years and ... ah well, blah, blah ... Norm sent me an email a couple of days ago: "the new Atlas Autoracks are arriving, you still want them?" I wiped the dribble off the keyboard and said " You bet" can't kick good habits, being an Atlas dealer was such fun so long ago, order a load, keep one or two and sell the rest. I hope everyone's coming to Winchester in October.

Gotta' go, Detox by Strapping Young Lad making my drumming memories take oh-oh-oh-ver again....
Is there a chair in the WTNC?

Sorry Jordan, tripped over the wheelsets so often I assumed I must have mentioned them just now, they ARE coming.

On the recent trip to the states we ventured out to Cedar Falls Iowa, to visit Caboose Stop Hobbies. This is model shop that has a couple of lists of stock on it's website and that's it, if you want something you need to phone. It basically has no exact idea as to what stock it actually has, so it turned into a search through a huge pile of Atlas boxes. This was one of the finds

A TTX articulated car carrier in faded yellow paint

Fortunately it does go around 5 foot radius curves even in P48

I also managed to pick up some more track parts from Right O Way

These are gauge plates

They should really meet in the middle but that would cause a short, so I'm happy with a gap

The 4 right side brass components are rail braces, it all certainly adds to the right look for a switch.

I'll post some pictures of real track this evening to compare against.

No help offered here Richard.

I picked up a (Boo Rim) Car & Locomotive Shop Alco RS-36 from Henry Bultmann himself at the Chicago Meet many years ago. He looked a little nervous and said "I know you're a D&H man, so I had it painted for you". I had wiped the dribble (off my chin I hasten to add), so the "Can we say for another $300?" was just part of the show buzz. I assure you I do occasionally take it down the Trowbridge club.

Luckily I was still working for a living (hobby money) and running the hobby biz for import disguise (wife). You haven't forgotten I've go loads of P48 33" and a few sets of P48 36" wheelsets have you, swap for your surplus Ow5s where needed?!?

And you still have Intermountain wheelsets to send out, as well..... ;) unless you don't really want to sell them..?? :p

Jordan, I've replied to your point about the IM wheels and unexpectedly managed to make it an 'open' conversation, whatever that buys everyone else.

I should've PM'd you myself Jason, sorry. My post was meant as a gentle nudge rather than the annoyed prod it might read as to others.

C'mon Jordan you know I'm past that age where 'gentle nudges' help at all. The good parrot AND the bad parrot on my shoulders occasionally stop arguing about what to do next and just yell at ME.

The (far side) switch rail in the above photo has (what I take to be) bolt heads in the web all along the rail which is visible in the photo.

What is the purpose of those "rivets/bolts"?

regards, Graham
Hi GRaham

Sorry but I have no idea, I'll take a look at a real one soon and see if that helps.

This turned up on US Ebay a few weeks back, it is a Sunset models GE C44-9W in SP livery of course. It is currently 3 rail, but replacement wheel sets are available from Right O Way. I'm not sure what electronics are inside it, it has a big speaker in the radiator housing, and makes appropriate noise if you put it on a track with a DCC signal. If I'm lucky it may have a QSi decoder of some kind in it, if I'm unlucky it will be TMCC, which has to go straight in the bin.

I have removed the couplers and it already looks better, it has fixed pilots, so it just needs the wheelsets changing.

The only thing that's put me off these are the trucks, they're very clunky, even Lionel are better detailed and proportioned and the primary axle box springs are woeful. Other than that for a brass import they're pretty good value for money, but not on a par with OMI, but then neither is the price.

I've heard there's a second run in the pipeline that address some of these issue and adds more detail, no idea when they'll appear though, they may go the same route as the recent Krauss Maffei SP Hydraulic with a plastic body for detail, there was quite a bit of anti plastic hate on the forums but when finished they did look really really good.

The second run has been cancelled, I got an email from them earlier this year, they cancelled a couple of other steam things too, a lack of pre orders. The SD40-2s are going ahead with expected delivery before Christmas, the pre orders are about to close if any body wants to get one.
It also includes the SD40 tunnel motors for that appropriate railroads.
I agree the trucks could be a lot better, but its a good starting point for £300.
