Looking splendid Tony.

I do like this layout.

Rob.

Thanks Rob, that's very kind of you to say. The pandemic has given me extra time to get the buildings finished, so here's to us getting back to exhibiting in due course.

Base for the perishable depot is down and ready for ballasting. It has locating blocks so that it doesn't move when on the layout s clearances are precise.

I'm aiming to have some of the buildings removable, but we'll see if I can conceal the gap between ground and building.

Once I'd put the roof on the perishable depot with all that detail inside, I realised no one would be able to see it, even me! So lighting had to be installed using old offcuts of the LED cameo cabinet strips I had kicking around and some 0.2mm magnet wire from eBay. I got the magnet wire tip from Kathy Millatt's YouTube channel.

More progress on the milk tank pumping shed. The brick base and felt roof are Scalescenes, with the Wills kit making up the wooden section.

A test of the creosoted wood effect is shown alongside the building here, a base coat of Vallejo wood grain, with dark weathering powders on top.

The smell of a warm creosoted shed on a hot summer day! Beats modern shed finishes into a cocked hat and lasts forever.

Evening Tony,

Lovely job on the shed. It really does look the part and goes to show how different materials can combine to produce an excellent model.

Thanks Rob, I'm pleased with how it turned out, I think it sits well enough with all the card based buildings. It was also my first use of weathering powders, which I found I needed to use a mask with as the powders had a habit of wafting up towards my face. Thankfully masks are not in short supply these days.

Next up is the warehouse, a large building which will take up most of the backscene, it's the last building for the layout, but also the biggest, will be three sections of this.

I've got sidetracked by building locos again. This time an ancient K's J50 on an etched chassis I found on eBay. The seller designed it for the Lima body, but obviously it works for the K's kit too.

I have been practising soldering white metal, seems pretty easy so far...

Hello again Tony,

I'm just trying to do a bit of catching up again. I did say I wasn't a great 'forumy' type when I started out on here but I am still watching a few of the cameo entries with interest. Of course they aren't all in the same place now but fortunately I still get notification when they're updated.

I think you have made a splendid job of the buildings and I like the way you've applied the weathering - I've long been a paper and card advocate but that's just because I lose fewer finger ends to craft blades than when I attempt plastic card modelling.!

Keep up the good work, hopefully I'll get to see this and the others in person some day.

Hi Mick,
Good to see you are still looking in here at the cameo layouts. I'm still amazed at how long these layouts take to build, I really must stop mucking about with rolling stock that I don't need and crack on with the warehouse to kick this over the line. Now that shows are starting up again I must get the layout finished and certainly hope you can see the layout in a completed state one day.
Cheers
Tony

I've finally kicked off the warehouse building, going to be a bit of a slog to finish this, but glad to have started it. It's three sections of the Scalescenes low relief warehouse with bits and bobs from the full warehouse kit.
