Hi John
What era are you modelling?

Hi Compton

My era of interest is the nationalisation period between 1947 and 63 a relatively broad bandwidth. This probably has a lot to do with being a trainspotter within this period. My chosen dates are 1956-57 pre mainline diesel.

Rob.

Sounds good Rob,
It will be interesting to see two versions of RB taking shape and in 7mm. There is a nice 4mm version doing the exhibitions as well.
If you do proceed start a thread we can share ideas.
I'm hoping that Laser Craft are going to do the signal box and water tower but
Rob has been taken ill at the moment.
Do you mind if I take a copy of your track plan. So. I can rework it suit my needs.

Hi Compton
Sorry for the delayed reply, I had an interesting day on the West Somerset Railways tidy train yesterday. Steam hauled, Somerset and Dorset 7F, producing spectacular atmospheric effects on a cold and sunny day, with a brake van ride included. Brings a lump to the steam mans throat.

Should I proceed I will start a thread. In the meantime please use the track plan and amend it to your requirements.

If I can help out with Templot work please don't hesitate to ask.

Regards

Rob.

Hi Rob
I've had a play around just with a pencil
image.jpg
With regards to saving space I would have to replace the two double slips under the bridge with a left hand point and next to it an offset 3 way point.
I will be having the down main and empty coaching stock road in the front just so I can shunt parcel vans and may be have a DMU back and forth.
I will add a sliding traverser in from of the stores building.
If you wanted to have a play around with it on templot I would be great full. I could do a closer sketched plan to show what I mean.
I'm hoping to use hand built C&L points but may have to use a Peco double slip as I don't fancy building one of them.
All the best
Steve

Edited, I will not need the two Peco points listed on the bottom, 3 link will be pleased about that!!
Oh and a few pictures of your engines would be nice.

Hi Compton,

Would you please supply the closer sketched plan and I will produce an amended copy of your version of RB as outlined above.

I will also get some loco pictures loaded.

Rob

Hi Rob
A quick sketch for you, is it any good?
You can see where I've left out two double slips and changed them to a standard left hand and an off set 3 way point, this will give me a bit extra in the way of cassette storage and allow me space to add in the junction to the up Main from the parcel platform.
Many thanks
Steve

Very interesting times jan feb 56, when the kings where temporarily withdrawn with cracked bogies and two stanier princesses and duchesses where drafted in.

Lovely mate
Cheers
It would make an interesting layout in the 70s period.
I've just found out the AC railbus went on display at paddington in 1959, so I might just have use for one of heljans forthcoming models

Hi Steve,

I will amend the layout as per your sketch.

Hi Steve,

The revised layout is in the attached file. The vertical line on the left hand side running through the stores building represents the edge of your proposed layout. That is 1'-6" less than the original length, and would therefore put the edge of Ranelagh Bridge at approximately 12'-6" distant.

If this version is O.K. I will shift the plan to the left and modify the positions of items outlined in red.

Regards

Rob.

Thanks that is superb, the maximum overall length for the layout would be 13foot. From the start of the first point. That's not including around three foot for the cassette area.
I will PM you my email address.
Thanks again
Steve

Hi Steve,

Unfortunately I don't think it's possible to e-mail this file, I will need to print it on A3 sheets. If you are going to Reading on 7th Dec. I will deliver them there. It should keep you amused over the Christmas period putting this jigsaw together.

Regards,

Rob

Hi Rob,
Yes I will be at reading. If you don't mind printing them that would be superb, please let me know the cost so I can reimburse you for it.
As your only over the bridge from me your welcome to come over and see my progress when I get started.
I need to move canton on first though.
All the best

Hi Steve,

I suggest we meet up at Pete Waterman's stand at 11. By the way what gauge do you propose to use. The current file is to 31mm. I will amend it if needs be.

Regards,

Rob.

Hi Rob
11 sounds good I need to see Pete for a few bits,
I supposes it will be 31.5 mm and I will be using standard C&L track through out.
Thanks
Steve

It's been a while since I've posted anything on canton so here's one from a few weeks ago when I had a green western on shed,
I'm hoping to get one or two bits to finish it off at Reading.

I wonder if anyone can produce etches to give those dodgy Heljan Western wheels the correct profile?

How difficult would it be to replace them with Slaters?

It just jumps out at me........and yes, I now have one, BFYE, £407.
