How about any of the following re the truncated siding:
replacing the removed bit, but make it look rarely used, or
replacing part of the siding and adding a camping coach, or
not replacing any of the siding, but grub up the grass so that the siding looks removed,
bunging a sleeper across the rails.
just asking for a friend.

A little more detail on the coal siding with sacks used to mark out the original pile of coal plus scales and weights...



From this to this... The small trees I bought looked a bit lurid so I sprayed one with artists glue and spun it in a jar of ground scatter. The real trees in the background shows the new colours aren't far off...

That's the coal siding pretty well stitched up except for a hut. The stone wall was re-sprayed in sandstone and then weathered before putting it back.

Having altered the period to the very early 1950's, the balance of wooden and steel coal wagons needs attending to as well as their liveries. A pal told me I am in danger of finishing this layout!

I'm only doing odd jobs in the shed in this prolonged heatwave. The station end of the layout with the backscene wrapped around the door frame severely restricted photography and so plywood was screwed across the doorframe and the backscene now totally flat and wider.

The self-adhesive ID Backscene does not adhere well to undercoat or eggsheel paint, so I painted the new plywood with Brilliant White gloss enamel and sprayed the part above the backscene using Halfords matt varnish aerosol...

The rebuilt backscene behind the buffer stops is now completed with the addition of a large tree and four smaller ones. The spear fencing running towards the camera was perfectly staight and upright once upon a time. I've had a go at it this morning to little avail. Adrian Rowland etched some in brass, which would be dead useful now...

Another bit done hiding the road as it hits the backscene. Planting a tree of sloping ground was a challenge so I did it last night and propped it up with a pair of track cutters while a blob of PVA impregnated with static grass dried. This morning, some dead grass was added under the tree...

Morning Larry was just studying the pictures of the coal yard you are fettling and looking at the backscene it ooks like that area of the Dee Valley between Carrog and Corwen looking up to the B5437 as it passes Maes Y Waen......all excellent stuff

Thanks Gismo. You know the area well with living there. The Dee Valley looks to me very similar to some areas on the Shropshire borders down the valley to Welshpool.

A photo merely taken to see how the 4mm vac'd grass looks. Every day, I take photos of new 'work' and then go though photo albums to see how things really looked and how the model might be improved. This platform end shot tells me the accumilation of muck at places like this is missing...

It would be a very fastidious Stationmaster who had that bit of land regularly cut.

Would some low shrubbery be a good way of filling the area whilst keeping it tidy.

That area is a prime candidate for rhododendron - fills it up; low maintenance.

Rhododendron's....or at least some pretty flowers....

One of the small trees was sacrificed by cutting it into slices to form the base of the flowers. So far they look like bushes...


The bushes were sprayed with glue and some red flower beds were removed from their backing sheet and crumpled between finger & thumb so the flowers settled on the adhesive. It's a work in progress, as I'm busy doing other things today...

After the last train of the day departed, Reverend Griffiths went for a late evening stroll around the station with his trusty German Leica. He had walked across the fields and clambered over the stone wall to reach this spot...



The railwaymen were his flock and he knew they would be enjoying a gill or even a pint. All was quiet...


He took this shot and then stood for a moment wondering how the station got by without lamps and platform seats...


Then he looked in admiration at the church and considered his good fortune in securing this post. In an hours time, the sun would have dipped and he would back back home listening to music on the North Home Service...

No, I'd put a Bulleid Pacific up there on a plinth 'cos he once lived in nearby Llanfyllin on which Llanfair was originally based. Then should a train overshoot the buffers, there would be nothing to lose.
