"Loving the grot, soooo far removed from the ubiquitous GWR rose tinted layout"

Ouch!

Just to clarify, I'm talking about the ones at shows where it's a beautiful sunny day, every item is new, perfect and clean, with not a hint of use. Can't think of a single layout on WT that fits that description.

The gritty realism of this layout really does it for me.

Edit: "chocolate box" was the phrase I was trying to think of when describing the typical show layouts.

Double edit: I should also add that gritty workaday rather than pristine is a personal preference. No intention to tell folk what they should and shouldn't be modelling.

A chance of a few hours to work on the layout today saw a start made on adding the initial surface finish and detail to the area in which the signal box will sit.

With some mock ups of possible positions of the second phone box on the layout and what will likely be some period advertising hoardings.

The disused signal box has also gained some equally run down facilities.

A concrete coal bunker is also under construction to make up the scene.

Another few hours working on the layout today has seem much work on blending the area that had been left to accommodate the box into the existing scenics of the layout.

Drawing back you can see how the disused box fits into its surroundings and completes the railway infrastructure of the layout.

I know A30s are/were small but was the fence built after the car was parked ?
This layout is to me what modelling is all about , atmosphere.
