I would use UHU POR. It is designed specially for foamboard and does not melt it. Unfortunately, the packet is almost identical to the usual UHU, and the usual UHU most certainly does melt foamboard.

I picked up the wrong packet by accident at the weekend and wrote off 1 hours work scribing some stonework in about 5 seconds :headbang: :headbang:

I said more than a few naughty words

Hi Cynric and Richard,

thanks for the comments on the glue, much appreciated. I have not ventured into the workshop yet this morning but will report back later with thoughts on how the Canopy Glue coped.

cheers

I had a look at the 'shed' that I put together yesterday - four walls and a roof - and decided to pull it apart just to see what the adhesive strength of the canopy glue was like - I was quite surprised at the force that was needed to tear the joints apart, all were 'open/cut foam edge to paper facing' and i think that as a result of that, I will continue using it in that scenario and will try the plasticard to paper adhesion next and report back in due course.

cheers

progress to report at last.

The point control panel has been built (not even a shadow of Dennis-RS's one) and I was thankful that the 15 way D connectors and ready made cable that I had used on a previous layout attempt some years ago, was sufficient for my needs - it could be said that the layout was designed with a maximu they are any betterm of seven points in the first place ;) ;) ;)

That sounds like a plan 8) - but no, I am converting the garage to use as a studio for the wife to paint and a layout for me.
I have insulated and boarded the walls which now need skimming prior to installing some kitchen units as a base for the layout and integral storage.

I have built a small workshop at the back which will have my pillar drill, soldering set up, etc. It is also going to have a sink and my newly acquired spray booth (I got one of the Graphic Air AS300-D set ups like you have) I managed to get it direct from them via Specialist Auctions.com for £250 so it was a bit of a saving. It turns out they are not that far from me in Harrogate.

I will post some pictures once I am a bit further along and there is something worth seeing.

Hi Rob & Phill,

thanks for your kind words.

I have spoken to DCC Supplies (who supplied the Cobolts) and no worries, just send the defective unit back for replacement. I also mentioned that another motor was clicking at the end of the throw and in fact that one is also faulty, so that one is also being returned.

Hopefully some more progress next week.

cheers

Please excuse my ignorance.....yet are your layout baseboards hinged?

CME

Hi CME

no,  as one of the points spans across the baseboard joint, they are just bolted together.

quick update - the replacement point motors arrived - minus the securing screws for the actuating wire, so another phone call and they arrived the next day. Motors now fitted and all of the 'snap-locks' given a tweak, just to be sure and then the connections all checked ok. I had to wait for a friend to come round so that the baseboard could be put back 'in the flat' as 16' by myself would have been a bit hairy and knowing my luck, I would have bent something. Any road up, the 03 was used as the test loco and all points worked correctly as did the frog wiring, so once these painting jobs are out of the way (I've also a Bachmann Crab to do as well) I can get on with some productive work on the layout and sort out what I need and which might be available at the Gresford Get-together, which is now only two weeks away - hope to see some of you there.

cheers

having completed my painting jobs I have now turned my attention to the Servicing shed and drawn up and revised a 'structural steelwork' scheme allowing the use of Plastruct

Hi Steve and Rob,

thanks for the encouragement - finding it quite different to soldering - might get used to it by the time that I've finished the layout ;)

Nice shed! (never thought I'd say that on a Forum!!)...
I take it it holds a mainline Diesel easily? That's quite some sized structure!

Hi Jordan,

many thanks for your comments - a shed in a shed - now that's an idea

I have found a photo on an RMweb thread of a Deltic snug inside the Peterborough shed (which mine is based on). My shed is 650mm long so in theory, I could get a 90' prototype in - with a bit of a pinch, Deltics are 59'6". I'll be happy with a couple of 33s in there and the 03 & 08 on the adjacent track.

cheers

Sheds coming together nicely Mike........I do like those single road diesel sheds  8)

Hi Phill,

thanks for the comment, yes they do have a certain appeal - especially the fact that you can use all sorts of cladding materials and rooflights/vents.

cheers
