Discovered that several Class 31s were painted black when under ownership of Fragonset (a spot hire company) - here's the Accurascale 4mm model (I guess the plethora of high level bodyside louvres would make application of the traditional lining used on the 57 somewhat problematic):

I’m not so sure TOPS was American. If is recall correctly, Brian Bushell, who worked and volunteered on the Ffestiniog, in his earlier days was a key member of the BR team who wrote the code for TOPS. Happy to be corrected though…

Yes, there was. Sadly passed away a few years ago. Never married and no offspring, so definitely not your Dad!
