Hi again Tony.
Here are the remaining pics of the Ivatt 4. I've kept comments to a minimum. Just let me know if you want any additional details or close ups - not that some of them will take it!
43007 during repair at Eastleigh Works on 23rd May 1965. This was on the same occasion as most of these shots, when Eastleigh had a supply of these in pretty poor condition by the look of it and from which they assembled some decent locos.
So.... here was a surprise. 1st August same year and (for the time) a very tidy looking 43007 at Willesden Shed.
43022, Eastleigh Works Yard, again on 23rd May 1965. Looks as though it may have been a donor for 43007. According to my records it was withdrawn 19th November 1966 and was shedded at Stoke from November 1964, so did it visit Eastleigh from Stoke for repair? Frankly, in this condition and at this time it seems unlikely.
A slightly better shot of 43073 inEastleigh Shed Yard on 23rd May 1965. This one was not withdrawn until August 1967 so is likely to have been in better condition than most and therefore probably underwent some sort of repair. It was reallocated to Workington in July 1965 which suggests it moved there immediately after this repair.
The two above are 43106. Compared with some of the others this one was in pretty good order and most certainly received some sort of attention as it was one of the very last withdrawn, in June 1968. Eastleigh Shed Yard again, 23rd May 1965.
43147, again Eastleigh Shed Yard and again, 23rd May 1965. The coupling Rod on the footplate is always a good indication that the loco is withdrawn and my records say that this was withdrawn from New England on 26th December 1964. It was another of the ex M & GN locos, as most of those I photographed on that day were. In November 1965 it went to Cahsmore's Newport. As Eastleigh is not on a direct route to Newport I believe that it was sent to Eastleigh as a source of spare parts. (A previous image, close up of the tablet apparatus, was in the first few pictures I posted on this thread).
This is a section from another image, also Eastleigh, but the works this time, also on 23rd May 1965. On the low wagon in the background is the cab of an Ivatt 4. I think it's from 43005, withdrawn in November 1965 and probably a donor loco but I cannot absolutely confirm this.
That's all I have. It's just struck me that I may have hi jacked your thread, Tony, but it's in an effort to give you some prototype info. If you want to put this on to a separate thread I'm happy, and perhaps the Administrators will advise. Nevertheless I hope these photos are of at least some interest.
Best regards.
Brian
