I wonder if these lubricators were used on other NER locos? If so, I'll definitely look into getting some printed.

Happy New Year!
Dave

I am pretty sure that they were a standard NER fitting.

I have photos on my Flickr site of the preserved J27, J21 and Q7 with all having them. A quick look at Q6 photos online reveal that also has one.

Yes a standard feature. The classes mentioned plus the A2s, C7s and some B15s at least. Q6s may be more complicated because of the different lubricator arrangements adopted over their 'lives'.

Thanks for all the input chaps...

So pressing on with the running plate.. I get the feeling that this kit might well be blown up from 4mm, as some parts don't quite fit perfectly, the etched rivet surrounds for the splashers were nowhere near long enough. Fortunately I had some spare riveted strip, so I could cut the 'legs' off and add the short lengths at each end of the splashers. The leading drop in the frames to accommodate the front platform needed cutting back by several mill to allow the running plate to sit down correctly. In the event, I only needed to trim a mill or so off the length of the frames. The lifting holes also needed drilling in the front part of the frames over the front platform. Anyway - I'm making good progress with this interesting prototype.

I am fascinated now by the NER lubricator. What is the wording on the sticky-out-bit on the side? I can make out the word 'cylinder', which seems to be on a removeable plate but cannot make out the other text. Was there also a version for general lubrication such as axlebox?

Apologies Tony for the hijack but I thought continuing here would attract the correct audience!

No problem Dave - I welcome any discussion, it's what WT is all about!

I have a philosphy - of buying up things when they are available, I sill have a good stock of those Hobbyhorse cinder guards that I bought years ago.. and they would do nicely for the B16. Resisting temptation to fold up the cab ASAP, I did as much work in it as I could whilst it was in the flat. I used some half round Nugold wire for the can edge beading.

I'm following with interest, having the LRM 4mm kit awaiting the round tuit.

I had clocked that the lubricators are different, but not that Arthur K was a 4mm source. However if FK3D do draw them up I'd prefer that route, as while I generally prefer being able to solder rather than glue, the print would be far easier to drill to add the pipework!

Has anyone been to the NRM looking for drawings for these (B16/1s in general, not just lubricators)? It is on my to do list this year, but any pointers as to which ones are particularly helpful would be much appreciated.

One area in particular I'm looking to upgrade is the front bogie - not only to make a sprung one in P4 but also as bogies supplied rarely capture the look, weight or detail of the prototypes.

The North Eastern Railway Association has as part of its collection the Gateshead Works Loco Parts List drawings including those related to the Class S3/B16. Due to a lack of space at NERA's Archive at Darlington these are currently held on their behalf by Durham County Records, The Story, Mount Oswald, Durham. These may include drawings also available from the NRM. I've attached a PDF of the list for your perusal.

Thanks Tom, I'll have a peruse! Typically, I had my first ever visit to Durham 6 weeks ago, seeing my partners uni haunts. Certainly somewhere we could go again if the need arises.

The cab roof is a particular neat bit of design, the lower layer has downturns that locate inside the cab and the upper layer forms the overhanging roof. I've added the window rails from 1mm square bar as it looked a little bare otherwise, as well as some rudimentary cab doors.
