I've been making up kits for the plain boards for the storage yard, but even using the guide on the saw, not all of the cuts have been perfect, so I've had to straighten them up with the router.

I made up a jig to make slots for the cross members - except that the first ones are in the wrong place! Doh!

Your experience is the same as ours... so the circular saw and guide is used solely to reduce a 8x4 sheet of 6mm birch ply to the rough shapes which are required. A router is used to finish the outline of each part and to produce the slots and tabs (hint, our 6mm ply measures a shade over 6.5mm in thickness so a 6mm router produces a slot which needs a few strokes of a file to give a close fit on a tab)

Ah yes - there is a templot plan, not quite finished yet:-

And board 2 is now complete. I have miles of skirting board and architrave recovered during the house renovation, that will do for the stretchers. The legs look flimsy, but like Heyside once the whole thing is bolted up it becomes very stable.

I spotted this on another thread on the Guild forum, and a quick trip to the builders merchant turned a saw guide for 17 notes. The guide on the saw doesn't give me a straight cut, but this does and it clamps to the workpiece. The cuts are still not absolutely perfect and I suspect wear in the bearing in the saw, but they will do. I'm cutting edging strips here.

Looking really good Tony, I’ll pick your brains at the weekend about all things base boards as I’m hoping to make a start next year on board building,

Mick

More clutter has been evicted and now with 8 out of 14 boards made, it was time to bolt together and begin to level the boards. I had the kind assistance of DLOS. The railway room is still a repository for surplus household stuff. This was the first of, I hope regular Basford North working days to come.

But with the baseboards in place it is starting to look a little more orderly.
