This is a standard SR three shackle coupling fitted from the 1940s to many SR locos classes still in service.

They may have well sufferd from buffer locking - except the answer was to carry an extra three link coupler on the hook to gain the extra reach for shunting in a similar fashion as the SR US tanks (USATC S160) did around Southampton docks.

Sorry Jordan, no shot of the rear. You can potentially make out some elements of the rear coupling in the side view but I doubt anything conclusive.

Morning all,

Thank you all for those kind words. 'Tis true. Whilst I was chatting to Tim ( 7007 ) I was handed the plaque, Sheep Dip having been voted for by the visitors as best layout in show, something I was totally unaware of. In fact, I didn't know there was such a thing. I was quite taken aback by it.

This then is one of my favourite views of Sheep Dip showing typical motive power. A resident Peckett and visiting 03.

Overall, Dippy did very well. A slight issue towards the end of Saturday, arose from my wonky hand forgetting it was holding the controller and dropping it. This pulled a wire out of the plug connector which connects (!) the controller to the layout. A quick soldering session on Sunday morning before doors opened attended to it.

And that was that.

Next outing then is a trip to the seaside at Minehead with EWE for June 1st.

P&SECMRC, were asked if we could exhibit ruan, but due to prior engagements we are unable to help Dave out this year.

I would have enjoyed seeing Sheepy again and other regular exhibitors and traders.

Enjoy the show, it has been very good in the past, in the old venue.

Morning all,

Well, things are quietly a bit frantic hereabouts. It's been a busy week or so. Preparations for the SWAG day in Taunton at the end of the month are in full swing but I do feel we are on the final approach.

Sadly, Sheep One, my venerable Vauxhall Corsa has finally cried enough after 19 years and in excess of 118,000 miles. The assorted electrical gremlins that I've been chasing for the last couple of years have finally had their way. It is a sad time. SheepOne has transported the various layouts since 2016 and we've covered many miles. Stand out runs are to Taunton Rail ex in 2019 which required the removal of all bar the drivers seat to fit Mutton in. Earlier that year, Mutton was at Nick Pallette's Midland Small Layout Showcase in Staffordshire. The approach to and the immediate aftermath of an unexpected hump back bridge, taken at speed was memorable. It's fortitude during a mammoth seven hour run to the Uckfield show last year was tremendous and arguably it's finest hour. Sheep one's place in the annals of the South Wales Show Sprint Section is assured and the bar has been set.
However, the bullet was bitten and Sheep Three will be collected tomorrow morning. His first run is to NEWGOG on Saturday.

In other news, Project W has taken a step forward to it's show debut in August, with all track being cut, laid and wired last night, Peco Code 75 streamline replacing the unsuccessful Peco Bullhead which has been removed and retained for future use....

I agree. It does really look the part and no issue regarding the look, ease of laying, look of tge fishplates etc etc etc.....

BUT

One of the key locos for Project W is a Dapol/Rails Terrier. It truly does not like these points. B2Bs were checked and were right. High spots on the crossing vees were noted and filed flat but the little chap just stuttered and stalled, both on DC and DCC. The Terrier was tried on EWE, a DCC layout using Peco Code 75. It ran perfectly without pause. Other Dapol/Rails Terriers were tried, same issue. I can only think that the profile of the wheels is simply not compatible with the pointwork. Other locos were tried. Hattons P class, agsin s well running loco normally, stuttered but made it through.
Bachmann 1Fs, Hornby J15s, Hornby H class, Bachmann C class all ran well.

So, reluctantly the Bullhead was taken up and saved then normal Peco Code 75 was laid.

AND..


The Terrier once more glided about as did the P class.
