A bit concerned about your having emails to the group bounced. Can you try emailing me please - just to establish contact - on secretary@scaleseven.org.uk . Once you have done it can you confirm on here that you have done so I will expect to see your note. This is a problem that needs sorting out.

Think there were a couple of people over on RmWeb that had some problems getting in touch too Rob..

29mm 0/a frames is basically the dimension I have standardised on for S7, it gives just a little more space if you require any side play in any of the axle sets considering some models are sometimes required to negotiate tighter curves than maybe the protoype may have done, having said that I have built them at dead scale and they still work fine.

Col.
Hi Colin would that be ok for a 4-6-0 and a 4-6-2?

A quick, I hope, question about hornblocks in 7mm. I have two types of Slater's ones here, one is a fold up etch and one set is moulded plastic. Are there other types available without springs for compensation, any maker? I would normally compensate an 0-4-2T with twin beams and a rocking rear, carrying axle. Sometimes I haven't used hornblocks , just bearings in the twin beams; does this work in 7mm? I am planning only for a drop in non-working representation of the inside motion.
Cheers

Hi Ian,

The Slaters etched one has been superseded by a cast brass one of prototypical appearance,, the original square nylon one also replaced by one similar to the brass one. Note - the etched one uses a 12mm cut out, the others a 10.5! Others are available from Alan Gibson/Laurie Griffin/Hobby holidays etc etc. Beams can be used in 7mm just the same as 4, but consideration due the extra weight should be made - see for instance the discussion on Richards Duchess Tender - here

Thanks Andy, just read the whole thing. Very nice modelling indeed. I see that someone has got 14 years wear and all okay so I will proceed. I need to make some wider spacers first and a couple of beams.

Ian,
I am a fan of the Martin Finney hornblocks. There were a number of different versions to suit different prototypes. I haven't heard anything about them being reintroduced by Finney7 yet but hope they are soon. The earlier version of the plain type was good for twin beams as it had half etched parts at the top which could be removed to fit the beams, the more recent ones don't have this but can be modified. Fixed bearings in twin beams aren't ideal in my opinion as there needs to be oversize holes in the bearings to allow the axles to twist = uncontrolled slop where more wear can occur instead of the bearings moving in the hornguides. It will work but not for as long as with properly fitted hornguides.

Hi All
Another quick question; What does one have to use for Slater's O/C wheels? I have a few Singles and a 2-4-0 passenger loco with O/C. Is this just a question of waiting to see the item required in the S7 stores, or do I have to make my own?
Cheers

Thanks Overseer,
I am starting to see that the different weight involved in 7mm and looking at the Duchess Tender referred to above, it will be best to go for hornblocks with beams resting on their top surface. I am planning accordingly. I have found an image of the Finney ones and, I too, hope that the new owning group will be making these, simple yet elegant versions, available again.

Hi

All the Finney kits and accessories (such as the hornblock kits), and all the cast components within the kits will be made available as soon as we are able to do so. There is an inevitable delay while we sort out what we have taken over, and products will be reintroduced in batches over the next year or so.

Cheers John! I'd better get on with mine now. I have to say I have always liked Stroudley's designs and John Birch made a good job of this with the Albion kit. Thanks

Hi Rob
I sent a test message to your S7 address which was bounced back. I'll send you a WT PM with the bounce text in case it helps with the diagnosis.

Hi Ian, Dave

Thanks for your efforts. I was off-line for a couple of days and just picked up your messages.

I didn't receive the message from Ian so will be getting the Webmaster involved but did receive your WT PM Dave.

I will be getting the webmaster involved asap but as I am meeting him tomorrow to discuss web matters generally we will certainly be discussing this one. Will report on here as soon we have a resolution.

Regards
Rob
