4mm Ruyton Road revival

Following a kind invitation from Chris Challis, Ruyton made an appearance at Railwells over the last weekend. Apart from a couple of tiny niggles which were soon sorted (albeit one I will have to revisit) I was really happy with how it operated. Very grateful for the many kind comments that were made and thanks to my friend Ash who kindly provided transport and invaluable operator help.

It’s very nice, and I wish I’d had the opportunity to see it in the flesh, but might I make a suggestion?
Please find a way to ensure the tunnelmouths are dark, rather than lit?

sorry to offer a grumble, but I hope it will help
Simon
Hi Simon,
You make a very good point and I’ve never noticed that the light in the fiddle yard was so obvious. Intention is to ballast and add some scenery to the small area beyond the bridge but now see I need to add something to stop the light distraction. Many thanks.
cheers Paul

Hello @paulhb
Itt was great to see it in the flesh again after a span of years. You’ve done a really lovely job. I showed this thread to a work colleague, and she was amazed by the scene setting, and its authenticity.

Cheers

Been a while but a Ruyton update!

Let there be light!

Something that I have been meaning to sort out for a while was the lighting of Ruyton Road. Two standard lamps with daylight bulbs didn’t really cut it! So after some research I decided LED lighting was the way to go. I wanted a set up that did the job but was understated and bearing in mind my use of 3 links and operation from the front at home would not get in the way. After more research and checking out various online retailers I purchased some aluminium corner profile, a strip of daylight (5000k) LED lights and the appropriate LED driver. The profile is supported by thin wooden strip. I am happy with the result but awaiting delivery of a dimmer that will allow me to vary the brightness. As can be seen from the photo all very simple.

I have also built some authentic S&MR wagons, Two ex Midland 3 plank drop sides, one Slaters, one Mousa Models’s; an ex NER cattle wagon from PreGrouping models and an ex GWR N1 horsebox from Keykits. All need to be weathered before I can call them complete. Next project is the point rodding and completion of the Ford Railbus.

Hi,

A couple of photos of the state of play regarding an addition to Ruyton Roads carriage stock. Perhaps more believable than the Highland Railway 4 wheeler that is currently used for passenger trains. The coach is a Cambrian 4 wheel composite from a Camkits kit that will be finished in the S&M's blue livery. Not really accurate as the Shropshire 4 wheel coach's came from the LSWR and North Staffs but the intention is to give an impression and it's not completely outside the bounds of possibility that maybe the Colonel picked up one of the Cambrians old 4 wheelers going cheap!!

The kits themselves are nickel silver etches for the main body and chassis and are a delight to build.

Having acquired a substantial collection of MRJs I am slowly reading through the earlier copies. I thoroughly enjoyed the original description of Ruyton Road in No. 75 1994. (I know it has been said before but I have only just read this)
It put a good background to this lovely layout which you have now and kept it going in such a wonderful way. A lovely tribute, thank you for the updates.
Still cannot believe it is only 42" long.
Thank you a Merry Christmas
Julian
