Roger's G1 1/32nd Modelling

Hi Chaps.

A little tip that may help a huge amount when using spray cans and with a low ambient temperature is to immerse them in hot water for 5 mins before using. It gives a much higher pressure and a much finer mist and a lovely finish. The water is just from the kitchen hot tap, not boiled from the kettle. Shake well as normal as dry with a tea towel.

The Ford Escort is just about finished. All I need to do is sort out some period Cornish registration plates.

Quite a nice kit to put together. The only areas that let it down are the front panel and bonnet, the glazing and the rear end sits down too much.

Paint for the PMV and 21 ton coal hopper have arrived so the airbrush will see a bit more use shortly.

A little more progress on the Southern Van. An easy job, mask off the body and spray the roof in Precision "Roof Dirt".

MOD PMV 10.jpg

I was going to paint the under frame and sole bars in black, but it seems that blue bodied Southern Vans / PMVs had blue sole bars, blue buffer beams and blue head stocks when out shopped ( unless anyone knows any different). So I'm going to go straight to "Frame dirt" for everything below sole bar level before starting the weathering phase.

Hi Roger

I was just cheekily wondering if you'd done anything more with your wonderful 1/32 models?

Last night I finally got around to lettering my lowfit using CCT transfers and have just been lying here surfing through pictures of related stuff on the Internet, which made me think of Holman's compressors and led me to your excellent thread.

I have an International models Fordson for this lowfit so need to think about chocks and roping etc, but another lowfit on the stocks which could carry a compressor...

We are long overdue another 1/32 garden meet I think.

Hello Simon,

No real progress in the 1/32nd department I'm afraid. Helping with the re-wire on D1013 is taking up quite a bit of time these days.

Funny you should mention Holmans compressors. There are a few fotos on the "Cornish Railways" forum on Facebook showing compressors on lowfits on the 6B59 Ponsandane-Exeter Riverside freight. The fotos, taken by David Letcher, generally feature Westerns in west Cornwall and are well worth viewing. His fotos around the Redruth-Camborne area and Penzance are just wonderful!

A 1/32 garden meet would be something to look forward to, in warmer weather though!
