Very nice work!, is that a kit?, if so which range please, if not, then congratulations on your scratch building skills.

Kindest

Mick,

The 21 ton coal hopper is a kit and was produced by Iron Road Modelling Services a few years ago.
Their website, www.ironroad.co.uk , suggests that they still produce wagon kits, but the wagon kits section
just has "coming soon" and has done so for quite a while now.

I believe the 1/32nd version is blown up from a 7mm version. It's a bit agricultural, I swear there isn't a single right angle anywhere where there is supposed to be one, but it does look nice made up in plain brass, and I did enjoy putting it together.

It's a shame the kit is not produced anymore and I hope that my next weathering job doesn't spoil the construction part of the build.

I finally got around to spraying matt varnish on my GWR 10 ton ballast wagon and Lowmac.
The light weathering on the Lowmac was produced with a dark earth wash rubbed in with a cotton
bud, simple but effective - well I'm happy enough with it for a second attempt at weathering. Now
that these wagons are finished, my next job is to start painting the 21 ton coal hopper.

Very nice, please tone down the shine from the flanges.

I think that the style of buffers of those wagons tended to rust on the shanks very quickly and leave the detritus on the collar of the stock.

Will there be some chains? or possibly a load?

Yes, the chains are already made up and just require fitting, and I have a choice of two 1/32nd tractors
to use for a load - a Fordson Power Major and a Massey Fergusson 35X by Universal Hobbies.

That looks absolutely dreadful!!

Well done for getting the weathering project going, I haven't taken enough brave pills yet to tone down the toad.

I like the sound of the tractors, I've got a Universal Fordson for my "lowfit" when I get around to it.

Simon,

At least you have constructed a Toad, mine is still in the box along with 7 other Mercian kits!!

Just saw your reference to "lowfit". Has anyone thought about scratch building a Holmans compressor and putting it on a lowfit as part of the 6B59 Ponsandane - Exeter Riverside goods hauled by a Warship?????

I'd better sort out my 1/32 lowfit kit then:)

I'd like to see a picture, what colour were they painted?

Simon,

"Hydraulic era" Holman / Compair compressors were painted yellow and looked something like this more modern example:-

On page 52 of "The Heyday of the Westerns" by Derek Huntriss is a cracking photo depicting two large Holman compressors on lowfits immediately behind D1069 on the 6B59 freight passing Aller Junction.

I think I'm going to fall for this, I built a pair in 4mm scale some years ago, free-lanced and painted my favourite powder blue:)

Anyone point me in the direction of any drawings?

"Lowfit loads" could be a whole new modelling genre.....

Whoops, there's another "goat" in the field:))

I can't believe it's over two years since I last posted something. Last year I finished constructing my 1/32nd Southern PMV and this week I've started painting my 1/32nd Fred Phipps Warship, D817 Foxhound. Here's a few phots.

PMV side el.jpgPMV end el.jpg

Before I started spraying I tried a few practice runs on Mark Smith's spare D6300 body.

22 practice body.jpg

Then on to D817 - first off in "milky bar" colour.

817 body.jpg

Just started with the Halfords white plastic primer. Note the air temperature at 20.9 deg C. I thought this might be a bit too hot, but the primer sprayed on very nicely.

White primer finished. Yellow ends next.

Yellow ends sprayed on.

Next job is to mask off the full yellow ends and spray the body maroon.

I was pleasantly surprised how well the spraying went bearing in mind that the Halfords primer was over 10 years old and the Rail Match yellow is 9 years old!!

Sorry Roger, I just can't help myself...

Dreadful!

Andrew Vines came around last night with D6318 looking good, we must all get together one day soon:)

Just great to see more progress and the PMV looks really good, did you use a resistance soldering technique on any of the details?

Simon,

Just my traditional "welding" technique! A little bit of super glue and a little bit of filler.
