No but the railway runs through the salt lake and as our train was 9 hours late by this time we got to see them as it normally leaves at 11pm from Salt Lake City but ours left at 8am.

Ah......I thought it was just the grille.
My apologies to Shawplan.

Sadly

All you really need from this is the grille, the rest you don't really need, I thought I might need the boiler blanking plate but no both 138 and 164 clearly have the boiler opening i the roof in 1981.

Work progresses on the two 40's

Here are the bogies, they just need some front end detailing

Here are the 2 bodies now in blue and yellow

The 2 chassis

40138's chassis is at the front with the no water tank fittings, 40164's behind still has the water tank to be fitted.

Here are the cab bulkheads complete with some of Pugsley's cab interior transfers, they are excellent and cover all periods up to now.

Here are the cab control desks.

Work has been continuing on the 40s, here are some weathered cab details

I have to say that Martin's transfers make all the difference.

Both bodies are now painted and have transfers, here's 40138

The chassis for this loco is also well under way, I had it powered up and running on its own this afternoon.

Here is all the wiring gubbings, how do other people do this ?

I'm using one of CLiff Willams excellent speakers, this is the 40mm version wrapped up in its plasticard sound chamber.

I have realised one glaring ommission from the kit though and thats the bogies steps that go on the very front of the bogie and allow you to climb up on to the buffers, they are not part of the kit. So it looks like I will need to get these etched, I might do the door clips too.

One thing you can here is an MMP loco air control pipe, much better to look at than the JLTRT equivalent as the cable is much nearer to scale thickness. I need to get some more of these, they area bit too long though.

Shaping up nicely Richard. What's the Y25 bogie for?

Cheers

Tom

Nothing really Tom, I ordered them from John Talbot to see what they were like and as they just glue together I made them up in Singapore the other week in the middle of the night when I couldn't sleep. I do have some finescale bogie bolster bs to convert to S7, but when you try to do it the bogies tend to disintegrate so Ineed to source some replacement bogies. Johns look like the ones to get.

I still the other one to glaze so to get the flush glazing you cut each window out individually, what do you use as the template ?

I got mine as a bulk order from my Thermoforming plastics chum, however you can buy it in smaller quantities from places like this http://modelshop.co.uk/Shop/Raw-Materials/Plastics/Clear/Item/Clear-PETG-510-x-625mm/ITM6943
If it's PETG sheet you're after drop me a PM for a couple of sample sheets - I managed to acquire a few from the local friendly forensic lab!

Hand cut!
You measure the width, trim it so it is an interference fit to the verticals.
Then you shape the bottom horizontal to fit rounding as needed.
Final step lay the window in with the three measured sides in place (bottom & verticals)
Scribe the top slightly oversize, then file.
I use a large "bastard cut" half inch round to lose the bulk, then "2nd cut" finishing with "smooth" cut half round files.

The ones that benefit most on the 40 are the side windows.
If you acclimatise yourself with the technique then yon can revisit the first one and offer up a dowel and smack the side ones out, leave the fronts as they are.

Hope this helps

If you do a drawing Richard, I could try and laser cut them?

I have a JLTRT Class 40 under the bench scowling at me to be made which could be measured if need be, or, I could drop one of the cabs off to you at the next Sudbury meet so you can trial fit and measure at your leisure to get them spot on if required:thumbs:

Ok, sounds like a plan.
