Rebuilt Crosti 9f

I'm a bit surprised that you did not drill and pin one of the fixtures.

OzzyO.
That did cross my mind, but to be honest I was getting a bit weary of such things. I may still do this if it all falls apart further down the line.

After another false start I've now got the brakes sorted. I was initially feeling quite pleased with myself until I realised I'd got the brake hangers too high! I made the mistake of assuming the hole positioning in the chassis would match the geometry of the Ragstone castings. Not so! So, I had an interesting time drilling the mounting holes a bit lower.

The pictures below shows the brakes just clipped in place, but not aligned yet. I'll carry out proper alignment later.

While I contemplate the construction of the brake pull-rods, I thought I'd have a look at the sand-boxes. There's six on the Crosti and they're quite visible, so I'm trying to get them as accurate as possible.

The supplied whitemetal castings are not too bad, if lacking a little detail.

So I've tried to jazz them up a bit with some LG Miniatures castings.

I'm making them detachable initially so I can position them more easily.

As you say, Mike, three per side. When operated with the Crosti equipment, the rearmost box on the RHS was set quite close to the middle one (in front of the centre driving wheel and very high up so that only the very bottom of the box and sand trap were visible below the footplate, unlike the LHS view illustrated) because of the location of the side chimney and blast pipe arrangements. I'm not sure if this different arrangement was retained after conversion to conventional boiler or whether the rear box was moved to match the LHS.
Dave.

Just found some more photos that confirm the high, forward position of the rear RHS box was retained. Unlike the other three boxes, which were close to the frames and had the sloping face to the outside, the odd one was immediately inside, touching even, the running plate and appears to have been mounted with the flat face to the outside.

The kit kinda caters for this in that it presents a flat outer face, but it's a bit 2 dimensional. I'll have to beef it up a bit.

Hello Mike, been looking at sand boxes. the front fillers are on the front face of the apron beside the outer steps at the top,
they feed the front wheels only. the other 2, one is just behind the reverser g/box and the other one is in front of the shaft support
bracket, the pipes are one in front and one behind the centre wheel, it looks like the boxes are fitted to the chassis between 2n3 and 3n4, front one is not visible. I would send you pictures if i knew how.

I've been going through many pictures of Crostis in an effort to work out the positioning of the sand boxes. I think I've sussed it and will post my version of events in due course. By making the sand boxes removable I'll at least be able to reposition them if I'm wrong.
