It's a fair point Rob, I'll be clearing the whole lot off on the next work session, just for a tidy up and to start the wiring in earnest. And also so that I can get my freight train out of all the boxes that are spread across the work room and the flat in London.
The wiring on this section should be pretty simple as it'll only be DCC with the odd dead section... that is until you look at Richards marvellous point work on the throat to the west yard. That'll be fun and I'm sure the odd head will be scratched.

I really must come for a visit sometime John.
As for wiring the pointwork in the West Yard, it looks fairly straightforward. Imagine having to do this !

Well, more than two years after the first post regarding the large shunting yard in the middle of the layout, we finally have movement.
Sorry that we haven't been updating this more regularly, but wiring is pretty boring to write about so we kept our heads down and got on with it.
Hopefully from now on, updates should be a little more regular as we'll actually have something to show, and maybe even a full running session.

Don't think we're quite at the point of an open house just yet. There's plenty to do, but the layout only gets attention for a few hours on a Wednesday evening, so progress can be slow.
The new yard is about 90% commissioned now, the points are all working with a posh new board being built to house all the push buttons for the servo's.
Scenics are pushing on too. A while back we added an extra section to lengthen the layout further and that part of the scenics was left a little unloved for a good couple of years. However John Birch has risen to the task and taken on the mantle. It's coming along very nicely, but it's a love affair trying to blend in the new platform between the two separated halves, possibly 10 years after the original was done by a different person.

When I first recorded this video a couple of weeks ago, I didn't think it suitable to post, and not showing S7 to its best with the rattling and rolling. It wasn't until I looked at it a bit later that I realised it was the differences in board joins and not the S7 standards what were causing some slight bumpy running.
In fact the video shows the running of wheels through the crossing v's quite well... Watch in 1080p quality if your internet connection allows..
