Richard,
If I'm correct I hope you don't mind me mentioning that the check-rail chairs come from Off the Rails via Shapeways.
Off The Rails by drrayner - Shapeways Shops
Off the Rails is run by one of the Love Lane crew and Western Thunder member David Rayner, S-Club 7 of this parish. He has a wide variety of products, well worth checking out in my opinion.
all the best

What is surprising is just how much space is needed to squeeze in a relatively small diesel depot, the new boards are 12 feet long and there is only just enough room for 4 roads using B7 points.
Well I managed 78" without a check rail on Aberbeeg at home in the shed! Eight foot should be easya nice 8 foot curve that will need a check rail all the way round.
As long as you incorporate some flange squeal .Simon the check rail is is not because it is necessary in model form, but it certainly would be on the real thing if any passenger trains were to pass, a long check rail really does add to the look of the track.

LOLI do like a bit of flange squeal...
ooops, sorry, wrong forum.
78" I think equates to about 4.2 chains ? A lot of steam stock was limited to 4.5 chains and then at dead slow speed , I'll also bet it would be spreading the gauge as well as squealing !The funny thing about the check rail on the 78" curve was that it made an excellent mechanical lock on the long wheel base steam stuff. As it was on the non-scenic bit, it went after attempts on a larger flange-way gap made no improvement to the lock.
Cracking start. The roof panels are the incorrect way around though.A bit more progress, this time with buildings
First up is the Diesel depot, this is the Heljan kit with one of the extension kits, so it is 900mm long in total.
I think it is a pretty good representation of an Eastern Region BR shed.

There is still a lot to do but you can see the basic shape taking place.
The next building is a NER signal box. This is a kit from Intentio Models which is run by BrushType4 on here.
The kit doesn't come with any instructions, but they are described as intuitive.
Here's all the big bits

I then started on a dry run to work out where all the bits go, it is reasonably intuitive, but I did have to ask Phil about the base as it does matter which way up it goes. The base is the correct way up in the photo above and if you think about it, it must be that way for everything to fit.

First the inner lower sides on which the signal box floor will sit

Then the outer sides

Then you could add the inner frame

Then I've added the roof

At this point nothing is actaully glued together it is just the really neat fit of the parts. Hopefully I will get round to gluing this weekend.
Then there is all the detail bits !
