Me too just read the entire thread!
Mighty fine, liking the fiddle stick as it’s something I’m envisioning for my forthcoming reinvented layout Meldon.

Thank you so much. Very kind of you. I don't appear to have mentioned that I retrospectively added an isolated section at the far end of the fiddle-stick, just long enough to hold one loco. Small additions like this certainly add to the versatility of such a small layout.

London Road Sidings will be appearing this coming weekend (25th & 26th January) at Thamesmead Model Railway Exhibition, Harris Garrard Acadamy, Yarnton Way, Thamesmead, Erith, Kent, DA18 4DW. If you are visiting please stop by to say hello. Apparently we will be situated in the East Atrium. Sounds very posh!

London Road Sidings performed well over the whole weekend. My oppo, Matt, and I had some interesting conversations with visitors who wanted to know various details about the construction. The hand-held controller was handed to anyone who fancied a go. Matt proved to be a far better shunter than I, and appeared to know more about the layout than me! A number of people said that they felt inspired to have a go at building something similar themselves, which was quite gratifying to hear. Expect to see a flurry of London Road Sidings appearing any time soon! Two more exhibition invites were forthcoming, and at least one video was taken for inclusion in a Youtube feature about the exhibition.

Link to Erith (Thamesmead) Model Railway Show. London Road SIdings appears at 9.16 minutes in.

The three 08 shunters used on the layout have now been furnished with drivers. This chap is from Modelu who, unfortunately, had both legs amputated, as Bachmann 08's have a false floor which fills most of the lower cab to just below the windows.

The wagon fleet was recently enlarged to include the following vehicles:

Bachmann Lowfit with interior repainted and brush weathered with acrylic paint. The folded wagon sheet is part of a Smith's product.

Bachmann 5-plank wagon, brush weathered and covered with a Smith's BR wagon sheet. Thread used for the ropes, although they can't be seen in this view. I couldn't resist the puddle!

Bachmann again. Weathered with a brush and acrylics. Interiors repainted.

Dapol tank weathered by the manufacturer. I simply added the spillage in acrylic and fitted Bachmann couplings.

London Road Sidings is appearing at the Tenterden Exhibition this coming weekend. If you are attending please stop by and say hello.

I stopped by as instructed!
And very nice to meet you. I enjoyed our conversation very much.

London Road Sidings performed well over the weekend and attracted a lot of interest from fellow modellers. Two further exhibition invites may result from its showing at Tenterden. Onwards and upwards!

London Road Sidings is appearing at East Grinstead over the coming weekend. Please support the small local club and come along to say hello, and maybe have a go at a spot of shunting. See you there.

London Road Sidings performed well today at the East Grinstead Model Railway Club Exhibition. Only one problem occurred in that, once again, the hand-held unit for the Morley Controller failed for the second time. Bought about a year ago, little used and failed after nine months during an exhibition in January. Returned to Morley Controllers for repair. Returned to me with no explanation as to the cause of the problem (in fact, no correspondence at all). It performed well at the recent Tenterden Exhibition but failed again today. The problem appears to be that locomotives suddenly get a surge of power and race away out of control. Fortunately I had a spare hand-held unit which was pressed into service.
I am at a loss at to what the exact problem is. Investigation has shown that the three soldered contacts inside are not shorting with each other and there is not a break in the cable from the power source. I am not very impressed that this Morley Controllers' hand-held unit has proved to be unreliable for exhibition use.

Last day of the show tomorrow (Sunday).

The second day of the East Grinstead show went off well. The only slight problem was that, for some reason, the two rails either side of the isolation gap on the fiddlestick, decided to slide together. I couldn't understand why the loco at the end of the fiddlestick moved even when the switch was in the off position. Quickly sorted by borrowing a pair of pliers and sliding one of the rails away from the other. I must glue a small slither of styrene in the gap, and file it to the rail profile, to prevent this from happening again. I took this precaution on the two isolated sections on the scenic board but obviously overlooked it when adding the isolated section to the fiddlestick.

Good to meet Chigley at the show today.

Next exhibition is in April at Ashford.

Interesting photographing this layout.
Getting an iPhone camera to focus close up has a varied effect where the shadows and details are picked up

The latest item of rolling stock to arrive at London Road Sidings is this Bachmann Conflat A with A type container. I try to give each wagon some individuality, and in this case I have added the securing chains to the corners of the container. I have not often seen this feature on 4mm scale wagons and now I know why. Fiddly in the extreme and not to be repeated. The chains are a mixture of etches and wire, liberally coated with superglue to keep them looking fairly straight.
