Just for a laugh

I’m broadly in support of Adrian’s position of avoiding overtly political (and by extension, religious) humour, and think WT is the better for it. I’m pretty sure that anything beyond that is not going to appear here.

there were a couple of jokes that were deleted a week or two back that tested the water and were generally agreed to be a little too far, and they’ve been deleted.

Personally, I found the juxtaposition of Liz Truss and the Crowdstrike issue to be eye-wateringly hilarious, but I imagine she might not.

and whilst there are other fora, I don’t do the likes of Facebook, so presumably miss out on suchlike. If there were a vote (and believe me, I'm not advocating it) I’m very comfortable with where we are.

YMMV

Point taken. However, I would also point out that the majority of material on this thread is nothing to do with modelling and much of that could also be called nonsense, but it does make us smile. :)
Unfortunately when it gets too political it gets divisive and it crosses a line between a bit of harmless fun & good humour and into something that is more cynical, likely to be offensive to a number of people and is likely to foment more than a little ill will. As mentioned there are plenty of other sites, forums and social media for that style of humour so once again please avoid football and politics.

Thanks

I cannot understand why there so much ''angst'' regarding non-model railway orientated threads?

Especially when we are completely free to ignore threads which hold no interest to us, individually?
Or have model railway fora become as compulsive as Facebook?

Football? {Or, I believe in German it is ''fuss-ball?''}

I think Guy Martin summed football up very concisely.

I empathise with the sentiments, Phil, but that's a bit strong for WT. Of course you can turn off what you don't want to read - done it myself - and I enjoy many of the quips in "Just for a Laugh" and hope it's not withdrawn. I agree that we should steer clear of religion and politics which is itself a bit of a grey area - or perhaps nowadays a gray area.

For me keep 'em coming but the very last thing I'll do on this forum is get in to a row about it. As far as I'm concerned it's an argument (unless constructive) free area.

This stuffy, blinkered, controlling attitude is one of the main reasons I stopped being a member of
the GOG, plus a total lack of understanding of members wishes!
I hope we can continue to be able to share things which raise a smile, instead of worrying about
upsetting a minority who don't seem to have a sense of humour!

Brian has it.
We never argue about model railway stuff, but politically based humour will alway cause contention.
Let's stick to what we do best - model railways.

John,
Just out of curiosity, are you the same John K that started the thread "Cartoons I like" on the Gauge O Guild Forum with the first post on 4/10/2019, and subsequently posted another 36 cartoons on that thread ?

The same, but never were they political.
I am quite happy to be disagreed with l, and I don’t mind a discussion.
I am less happy with personal attacks.
The Mods have deleted the posts in question so time to move on.
Best

You can call me anything you like and not upset me with one exception. Don't call me late for dinner and it's gone cold.:headbang:

Some of friends describe me a pretty, some as ugly. So I must be pretty ugly. :D;)
