Wow that must have been quite a sight (and sound)!

A nice shot of the Llanwern workings is at http://www.philt.org.uk/BR/BR-class...7943_GHC4tMp#!i=2698446135&k=tnPrn3r&lb=1&s=A

The locos on these workings were always filthy and a hell of a sight (& sound) opening up through Newport station after exiting the tunnels. I searched through Youtube and there's no footage on there......just triple headed workings on preserved lines.......far too clean and hardly taxing load-wise.

Don't apologise old chap, they're great:thumbs:. Always nice to see a bit of pre-grouping on WT:).

View attachment 24180 I've been looking at the Precursor tank as I know I have to set to with it I don't have the skills of some of the guys on WT as I struggle to get locos to go together properly but here are some photos of the bogie it's fully sprung .I don't know if you can see clearly ;)

Well if this a sample of your skills it looks just fine to me, so don't underrate yourself.

Hi Tony it just has a Mashima and a fold up gearbox I'm hoping to pick up a portescap motor for it

Very nice, from what ive been told though, Portescap motors were very good for their time, but more modern motors like canons are a better bet really especially if you match it with a nice 2 or 3 stage gearbox..

Hi John,

I've just replaced a Portescap for a friend - the initial (nylon) gear on the drive shaft had moved away from the next gearwheel in the train - with a Maxon with ABC Mini E gearbox. Don't know how long it had been fitted, but should not really have happened.

cheers

Hi Guys

RG7s/Portescaps/Escaps have to be split into the 2 components. The gearbox, which is poor, and the motor, which is still one of the very best available. The movement of the the nylon initial drive is a recognised problem. In fact, if I have an RG7, I move the nylon gear on the shaft to give optimum mesh/minimised whine. A fraction of a mm movement can make all the difference to noise levels - very important with a sound chip.

If you do have any spare motors, get ABC to fit them to one of their gearboxes.

That is some b-i-i-i-g monster of a box. Just how many do you get to the ton? How many are going to fit into the Up Goods Refuge at Hartley Hill?

Ahh okay... I actually managed to get some solid lump, white metal axlebox and W iron castings sprung today... Admittedly it did take nearly all day, or a good few hours at least..
