Larry, I wholeheartedly agree about the Bachmann update. The original body moulding is quite accurate but the level and crispness of detail is far below modern RTR standards and would surely have warranted a retooling upgrade. There again, this project started long before Bachmann upgraded the chassis, so I'd probably been stuck with old body anyway.
Yes Peter, it is quite heavily weathered but is based on an actual loco at Lees shed, 41282's home depot, in 1955 - bang in my period.
The LH lubricator served the cylinders with very gooey cylinder oil, so was provided with a steam heating coil fed from the atomiser steam supply, and that's the extra low level pipe visible across the front of the lubricator, below the oil feeds. The condensate outlet is on the other side but is less visible. On the push-pull fitted locos (and a few others) the LH lubricator was a different type from normal, having a bolted rather than hinged top cover, with a screwed filling spout near the front. The vacuum diaphragm unit would prevent opening of a hinged lid.
