Apologies for it being so long since the last post.
I have been doing the massive job that is the detailing of the brick work on the main yard building.
We have also had a week away on holiday.
As explained before the brickwork painting means picking out individual bricks in three colours from the Army painter range. I dare not add up the hours it has taken. There are also three different patterns with the newest looking bricks work near the end of the building requiring every brick to be painted.
The series of pictures show how this progressed.
You will also note I have done some areas tp look like they have been patched up.
Weathering it all down was quite a job as well and the trick is to know when to stop. It may be that once it is all in place an extra layer of wash may be added in certain areas.
I have also finished under one of the bridge section.
In addition I have been working on the laser on some prototyping..
The removable roof section is a problem for transporting. it is an awkward shape and fragile. So I have been designing a special packing case. The sketch attached shows the cross section of the case.

The black is the bottom of the case, the green is the wall/roof section and the red is the lid. the lid. This will be held in place by magnets.
Some of the parts to make this are bigger than what I can cut on my laser, one of our Leeds club members has found and used a laser cutting company for some baseboards for the club test track. I am planning to use the same company for the larger parts. To ensure I have got the part right I have made a short and 1/2 scale prototype using my laser.
The good news was it has all worked as planned.
At the same time I am getting the wood cut for the case I am also going to get the parts cut for a new fiddle yard with a sector plate. This might not get built for the first two shows.
Again this is a prototype and is 1/3 actual size. This was very worth while as a couple of parts needed changing, including some of the location slots in the main top plate.
Back to the yard building and the most recent job has been starting to fit windows into the building.
The acrylic locates in the back of the window frame but it is very difficult to glue in place without glue coming out round the front of the windows. Instead of glue I have now used a very sticky cloth tape to fix the glazing panels.
A number of window frames have been glued in place. This was easier to do with the building on its end so I could get in from the top and the
bottom of the structure to position the frames.
Hopefully all the windows and other parts will be fitted over the weekend. There are a few parts still to draw and print.
All the metal parts to fit are at least primed, but most have been panted.
Regards
Andy
