A piece of London Midland motive power has been procured for Bethesda Sidings.

Given its location at the end of a branch line off the North & West route at Leominster, I felt that W.R. hydraulics might be rather more occasional visitors, compared with something that certainly could have been seen just a few miles further north in the Oswestry area, once that place had transferred to the LMR.

I've always rather liked the 'sad' faces of these, so it will get a fair bit of weathering and some added detailing in due course:

There's an image of a blue Class 24 in Nantmawr quarry towards the end (or might even be the final day of operations).

Enginemen at Llandudno Junction told me they preferred the 24's because they could be thrashed if need be whereas the 25's had some sort of limiter. This was why the 24's were often used on the Conway Valley branch on freight and as assisters to specials.

A model Class 25 is a temptation, although I would never live it down...

Hi Larry, I'm using the camera on my phone and holding it just clear of the track and scenery, in most cases (or trying to).

'Jennifer' was sold out of service by the LNER to the newly-formed NCB in 1947. It was not long before she was deemed surplus to requirements and was sold on, to the impecunious Vale of Radnor Light Railway, where she became one of the mainstays of motive power.

Here she has arrived in Bethesda Yard, with an ancient box van in tow, seemingly with South Polden Light Railway markings:



Following the closure of the VoRLR in 1965, 'Jennifer' languished in the old loco shed at Llanddewi for several years, before eventually being purchased for preservation. She ended up at the Lower Vowchurch site of the Herefordshire Railway Society for several years, until that site also folded, after which she was purchased again and is currently stored at a private site in Shropshire.

I have noticed that even the bridges that only carried pedestrians most of the time had substantial pillars.....Or maybe it was just the LNWR way of doing things..... Or maybe its because this one once spanned four tracks...
