7mm , Blackney, A Glimpse of the Forest

Looks like Ben Ashworth has been visiting again and it now being 1967 has photographed D5902 bringing down a Vanwide to be shunted up the branch to Forest Furniture.









and had time to nip into the goods yard fro this shot.

I'm probably being really picky, here, or might be completely wrong anyway, but wasn't the second headcode character from the left always letters? Just the 'O' could be used with the zeros in the other panels as it looks almost identical, hence the '0000' when heacode displays ceased being used altogether.

Jordan I have several photos of various class14s in the forest displaying a head code of blank 900 on trains which are described as a goods/photographers train. I've assumed that the 8 has been rolled down as it is now a straight goods train. I aslo have a photo of atrain in the Forest with a figure 7 rather than a letter in the second headcode place. I have also assumed that as this line is a one engine in staem and by this time ie late sixties there are only a couple of goods trains a week so diplaying the destination latter was really not needed. there are several other photos showing H in that place. the book the photos are in is Neil Parkhouse's book "Forest of Dean Lines and the Severn Bridge.

I have the same book. Are you sure the '7' isn't a badly-rolled 'Z' ? Page 79, top photo.
The bottom photo on the same page looks a bit like a '9', but is in fact a combination of the bottom of 'X' and the top of 'Z' - better picture of the same loco (D9502 as it happens) on the same date on page 41.

Whoops you may be right should hav gone to specsavers It may be too late to do anything as windows glued in, but might work on it. I have worked on it and now reads 8H(barely legible)00 at one end and 8F00 athe other. Thanks Jordan.

Another spec savers moment. Upon reading Jordans thread ihe pointed out that the footplate sides were loco green, something I had not noticed before. Upon looking more crefully at prototype photos realised I had missed that.
I started hunting round for a tin of loco green. I didn't have one and whilst pondering noticed that the backscene seemed very close in places to said green. I unearthed a bottle of Tamya Flat Green (the colour used on the backscene) and tried it out some black plasticard. It was very close so I decided to risk knowing it would be weathered which would bring it into line if it was too far out. It seems to have worked. Remember that the body has already been weathered and the footplate edge has not been. It appears to be a very close match.



I think when weathered it will blend in quite nicely. All I need now is the gauze/wire netting to gobehind the cab footsteps. Where could I get some.

After dropping of the Van at Forest Furniture D9502 continued to the colliery and is now returning to Blackney to run round its train. Like the Sling Branch trains tend to return with the brake van immediatly behind the loco mainly for braking purposes as the branch is steep but it also simplifies the run round at Blackney.
