image.jpeg The warship bodies are now back in a bath of clean Detol. This morning some etches turned curtesy of Jeff P, these are from the DJH kit and are for the roof centre section of D806.
They supplied these parts even though you couldn't make one of the original batch from that kit!

Nearly there!! Start over in the morning with a fresh batch of detol!

I didn't know WR modellers were that fastidious about cleaning locos after hauling non WR stock :D!

Joking aside, I'd never thought of using dettol to remove paint from models and I've since checked it contains isopropanol. From your pictures it obviously it removes most of the Heljan paint finish.

Do you happen to know what other paint finishes it removes? It it used neat or do you dilute it? How long do you have to leave the model soaking before the paint softens?

Apologies for the questions.

image.jpeg image.jpeg I'm not sure what other paints it works on, it takes a good few hours in neat detol them plenty of scrubbing. On with filing and cutting. Roof mods for both engines, front end rubbing ready for filling on D806 & D845 has had its light surrounds cut off. These will be grafted on to D806.

A little work on D845 this evening, Hymek style marker lights added, these will need drilling out to except the light lenses.
A quick waft of grey primer to see how it's looking.
I've also drilled out the new exhaust port on the roof. Out with the filler next!!

Last bit on the warships this evening, filled and sanded the vent on D806.
A little detail I hadn't noticed until I looked on the DJH diagram, The rain strip above the door needs to be removed on D845 so out with a sharp blade for a close shave!!
I did check prototype pictures first!!

I've been sanding the bodies today removing any imperfections left over after stripping. I've actually done some assembly on D845 with the skirts being reattached after painting using halfords Land Rover green. It's a lovely finish, I hope the body comes out as good.
I've placed an order for some pipes and roof loops from JLTRT. I think I will add some of the CPL diesel couplings to all 3 warships.

Filler is drying on the front of D806 the 4 character head code is now no more!! A little more filler on the roof of D845 and I've decided to fill in the lamp bracket holes and reposition them slightly to the left.
I've also filed down the doors on the skirt on one side and cut new ones out of plaster card again for D806. I then sanded them down smooth. I will add the brackets etc tomorrow then it can have a blast of undercoat.
Lastly for today I've given the buffer a coat of red on D845.

Very interesting to see that Dettol will remove paint as I need to strip a Heljan Cl 26 body for modifications..

Also, are those the working head codes from JLTRT?

Does it have to be "Dettol" or are there cheaper alternatives - I have a Heljan 47 to strip to modify/repaint and I'm a pensioner!

I'd stick with a brand you know works, even if it's relatively expensive.

There was a saga on here a few years ago when one guy tried something else and ended up with a soggy molten mess of a plastic body, not pretty!
