Evening Mike,

This is the powerful effect that modelling in 7mm can have on you, come and join us on the slippery slope :D.
Hi Martyn,

This is my fourth excursion into 7mm scale, in fact it was with 0 gauge that I became a 'modeller' @ 15. Manchester's Tyldsey & Holbrook on Deansgate was an Aladdin's Cave in those days! I attempted to build Llanfyllin mirror fashion in 2019 in 0 gauge, but sold up just prior to Covid before anything was glued down.

Good morning Larry,

Yes I remember the last attempt, Llanfyllin was coming along fine. There’s a lot of modellers out there that prefer the planning and building stages rather than actually operating the completed layout.

Martyn.

I definitely fall in to that category, my enjoyment is the build stage, I’m trying to keep something back for myself but as you’ve seen on my thread once they are built they are sold on.
Maybe make it so it could come apart so if you did decide it’s not what you want you could recoup some of your costs as I’m sure some one else would like it.
I enjoy reading your thread Larry, I’m glad to see you come back to 7mm

Similar to Steve (@Compton castle), I fall into this category and enjoy the research, planning and building stages. However, once I have built a small diorama or layout and photographed it from various angles it then gets ditched and the baseboards recycled for another project.

Enjoy the return to 7mm.

7mm scale/0 gauge from here on...

Track laid out to measurements taken from 4mm layout. Everything has been further reduced, but trains will be 2-coach anyway.

Frame completed after deciding it was too much bother to make the frame narrower at the bottom end.....

I took the bull by the horns and narrowed the baseboard throughout its length with a saving of 8 inches at the narrowest part. Maybe other members feel the same in that it is better to sort out any niggles rather than try to live with them...

Positioning the all important strip where the plywood joins...

A decent fit around the door frame...

The 8' x 4' marine ply was lifted onto the frame and marked off from below before cutting...

This is 'Idiot', he eats bananas. Sticks to me like glue but, unlike me, doesn't mind being rained off....

Those niggles do have a way of coming back to haunt don't they. The important thing though in my view is that you are enjoying yourself and making what you want make.

Wider bit left on offcut to prove support for overbridge embankment. New backscene board too....

Carefully laid to according to measurements

Ditto... The track has to curve out of the shed so that the return loop in the garden wont be offset...
WEB Llanfair 7mm 6D.jpg

A double slip here would marginally lengthen the sidings, but do I need them longer...? I'll check it out.....

Evening Larry,

Slips in goods yards, I feel, add additional visual and operational interest to a track plan. There were a large number of GWR stations which had slips in sidings - I think Goodrington had a fair few in its heyday. One that always comes to mind is Fishguard - this photo, I believe, was taken before the Great War and features a boat train.

I think the yard has a nice flow with the inclusion of the double slip; additional siding space may be helpful too. It might push the stock a little further from the pointwork giving a more open feel.

All the best,

Nick.
