1/32 The wall...

I need to heave this up because it is on my mind for Larkrail :) Taking advantage of some space now that a large site model has departed I knocked this up on in 4x2. As you can see there isnt much space in 1/32, i would really like to add an extra 6-9 inches depth which should be possible by splitting the board under the platform.

This is the shot i need to get right as it is the classic Wallingford view, I have been following both Geoff and Chris Nevard and their use of viewing angles and scene setting (not that you could tell from this shot) but in total contrast I will not be trying for a backscene as I want to be able to view from all sides and for photography im hoping a sheet of card in a neutral colour will sufficeIMG_0234.jpg

Of course I laid all this out and a little monkey in me said wouldnt it be a jolly little project in 4mm ......

The monkey's got you too??

So it's not just me and my projects!

It looks good, Guv, and it's giving me lots of ideas already

Can't wait to see how it progresses.

My mind started wondering :) and this sort of developed as board one of two. Inspiration coming from the Golden Valley railway and the W&L where the locos appear between the buildings and cross a road

Across the road an abandoned wooden station and one siding

Second board to contain one point and a ground frame. I really want to do a couple of local buildings I have seen and this might just be the chance.

Now I think you are on to something, in 1/32 scale that sort of "view" could be really striking.

I know it's not quite the same thing, but looking up the road on Gordon Gravett's "Ditchling Green" is, I think, one of the most sublime views ever achieved in railway modelling.

Steve Cook has/had a similar idea for the crossing at Whitehall Halt on the Culm Valley, although there's no signalbox there.

Back in the distant days when I had a proper job, I recall coming across a very striking view at (I think) Ammanford, where an intact (and possibly then still used) signalbox hove into view as I drove across an unexpected level crossing in a built up area.

I'd still be unboarding those windows though:p

Or down the road towards the Tabac on Pempoul?

I just thought I would see if a bit of pointwork would fit a B6 is just over 2ft long, correct chairs would be essential at this size
Yikes.... thats a 7mm 517 for comparison-

Had dragged the fullsize layout plan for that out last week - its massive! 11.5' x 4' for a level crossing, simple halt and a siding - one could almost call it ridiculous :) The 'crossing scene' really needs 3' x 5' to do it justice, which is why its sat on the back burner - I just can't have that size set up for a yard of track only. Mind you, it shrinks down to S alright....

Loving the Wallingford shots Guv

I'm trying to narrow down my options for Larkrail too :) Something in S, from either the Culm Valley or New Radnor Line perhaps....more research required ;)

Excellent - Phil Copleston and Laurie Griffin both "bagged" for Larkrail over the Railwells weekend:thumbs:

Presteigne is lovely, but way too much work to consider before Larkrail! I reckon I can get about 300 hours in before next July - unless the weather is superb, then that reduces as I go driving instead of making :) Think more of a 'Polbrock' style layout in that sort of timescale is actually achievable, even with some other ideas about presentation and lighting that I want to explore at the same time. Still weighing up the options though - got a decent amount of research info on both areas now, including site visits and general perusals but don't want to rush into it.

I have several choices do something 1/32 and rely on Simon for some stock to run it with, something in either 4 or 7mm with bits of stock I have lying around. The little monkey keeps saying do something in S4, but would that be silly? The other option is a diorama of a WW1 aerodrome...

As all other activities were cancelled I have been getting to grips with this today. Wallingford looks good to go for Larkrail :) a board or about 4ft x 2ft6 is manageable so it is time to get a move on :)) rather than scattering stuff in workbench threads ill just chuck it all in here!

Oh goody, a Western at Wallingford?
Not unless a 1/32 western turns up! should manage a Pannier though :)

First little puzzler for this evening was possible permutations for the bricks on an extension. the original outer wall is on the right and the lean to extension is on the left of the yellow line. originally the lean to extension was not flush with the original outer wall so it would have been keyed in, however in later years the extension was extended (!) to bring it flush with the outer wall and my conjecture is that it would have resulted in something like this.....
