Well over 30 years since I was in the real pub, long before it was closed, empty for I think some years then burnt down.
I do remember seeing a coin rolling 'up' the chair rail and a bottle rolling 'up' the table.
Regards
Allen

I only went once, in my student days, but very memorable.

Bit of an update on the side quest...

Getting very close to this being finished now. Since my last confession...
  • Roof tiles completed and painted
  • Chimneys finished off
  • Front garden planted
  • Casks painted and fitted
  • External tie rods made and fitted
  • Front door and frame made and fitted
  • Wonky lobby area made and ready to be fitted.
Just left to do...
  • Glaze windows
  • Fit lobby module
  • Lead flashing to go on
  • Finalise the brickwork weathering
  • Finish off the ground
  • Hang pub sign

Are they 7mm carrots…?

cone to that, you’d only want the one pod of runner beans..

They are huge aren't they! The real veg patch is 30 miles away, so the building can't be photographed Insitu. I did ask the AI to reduce the veg in size by 50% but it mostly ignored me:)).

I'm quite happy that the most unrealistic bits in the photo are things I've not done. If you close half an eye it looks quite nice though.

And so, it came to pass... There was a return to 7mm modelling!

On the basis I need to get my eye back in again, I've decided to finish off this wall I made last year. It got as far as having a swish of primer. For some reason I did that prior to removing all the rough bits and finishing off the coursing. No idea why...

Having done all the tidying up and, following some more primer, I couldn't help but notice something. The rear wall after being ignored for a year was perfectly straight, but the wing walls had curved and bent inwards.

The reason was construction technique...

The rear: braced using the strip on edge method I've described previously.

The sides: just layers of plasticard.

Of all the stonework I've painted on Pencarrow, I'm happiest with some of the earliest I did. So I've extracted a panel of that to use as my sample.

From reading early posts it seems I was then using the Life colour stone paints. I suspect there's a few other hints in there too and so e weathering powders.

This is where I've got to so far. One thing I have started using more after the Crooked House layout experience is a sponge. This is used to dapple the paint finish.

I'm leaving that to harden off before the next stage...

And the next stage is... Lay the wall flat and flood the stone with an off white wash. Not easy to get a clear shot of though.

Yes I know the mortar on this wall wouldn't be white, but the white (hopefully) knocks the colours back a bit. The wash will also settle in a few places giving the stones highlights.

The next stage will have to wait a while....

I always continue hoping that whatever I post on WT might be an encouragement for others to have a go... but I have also found that such a detailed record of past effort is ever more frequently a vital memoranda resource - as I keep forgetting more and more how I ever managed to do anything!

Looking forward as ever for your next instalments!

Pete.
