Hi Ian
I’m thoroughly enjoying the progress of the layout,
Is it possible to see more photos of the new turntable.
David.

Not only did painting commence, but the turntable deck is now also weathered.

After priming, the main body was painted using Revell Medium Grey acrylic (36143). The underside was then darkened along the bottom edges with a mix of Vallejo Model Air Tyre Black (71.315) and Rust (71.080). The planking has had two good coats of slightly diluted Indian ink. Handrails are painted with Revell Matt White (36105) and weathered using Vallejo Model Color Smoke (70.939), Vallejo Model Air Rust (71.080), MIG Ammo Ash Black Shader (A.MIG-0858) and Dirt (A.MIG-0853). The chequer plate was primed and then painted with Tamiya NATO Black acrylic(XF-69) and then wiped off whilst still wet. A coat of Tamiya Flat Black acrylic (XF-1) with some Indian ink mixed in was washed over which gives a nice sheen/wet look.

Some rectification work to the walling on the high level lines was completed as well and it is now awaiting some weathering to blend it in with the rest.

New cast panel in place with gaps filled using a lightweight filler. Capping stones made from Slaters platform paving and 40thou plastikard.

Painted using Railmatch sleeper grime. I've never been happy about the " Brown look to the brickwork on the high level, which was done by others almost 30 years ago. I took the opportunity to experiment with a dark grey/black wash to give the abutments at least an engineers blue brick look. I eventually settled on Tamiya NATO Black acrylic.

More weathering next week.
Work on installing the new turntable was also started.

Waiting for materials and decent outdoor weather gave me the chance to catch-up on some of the WT threads. Some pass under the radar, so I was pleasantly surprised to see this one this morning. I like any model railway that realistically captures the real thing (even if it is Southern haha), and this one certainly does that. The trackwork in particular is a work of art.

Larry,

Thank you for the kind words.

The supports for the replacement turntable have been fixed in place with the installation module levelled up.

This coming week will see the drive mechanism fine tuned and a start made on the locomotive servicing depot.
Meanwhile, I airbrushed the new retaining wall, made for us by LCut Creative, which will surround the control panel. This will get another coat of paint on Tuesday with a blue tint to replicate engineers bricks.

As can be seen in the photos above, the baseboards drop away, so the wall will also require levelling.

Yesterday's work saw some time spent designing new signs for the various stations on the railway before real work commenced.
With cork sheet laid on Sunday where the servicing depot will be, another length of track could be fitted.

It was wired up and ballasted and the water softener put into position to check it's final location.

The replacement plinth for the new retaining wall had been primed and also received some weathering, more to follow, and the wall put on top to see how it all looking.

Other group members worked on other jobs, Robin Taylor for example, is re-working this bridge scene. An example of one of the new signs can be seen on the right. These will be printed on photographic paper and frames made for them.

Sorry, can't help with the brick questions as I have little knowledge of railways in London. However, I can say that the ballasted and weathered trackwork looks absolutely superb and totally prototypical - one of the benefits of S7, I suppose.
One slight concern is the steepness of the signal box access stairs - almost a companion way angle. I can see that space is an issue, but even so......
Dave.

I don't believe it is S7, more one of the finer 32mm standards (32MF?).
