For keeping it simple and cost effective then yes Plan A would work.
For plan B - my only suggestion to keep it simple and fair easy to transport would be to float your island in a drip tray you could then fill with resin - assuming you can find one the right size.

Yes, actually, it makes the experience slightly more bearable. The 'middle of Lidl' is usually rather better than Aldi's.

I find I don't go 'shopping' in Lidl...I go 'rummaging!' Lidl has a tendency to have multiple types of the same product in one location...a box, usually. So, one has to rummage around, to find exactly the item one wants.
A darned nuisance if all they have are the very items one doesn't want...and one's desired item, nowhere to be seen. {Their coffee is like that!]
So, the 'rummage' business model, coupled with the 'suppose that'll have to do' business model?

Morning all.
My apologies for the lack of words accompanying the above images. I was in the midst of posting when I was 'required' ......and that was that.
The backscene is now painted and in place, awaiting final tuning and securing. Final finish will be left as is . The fascia boards need cutting and painting and that will complete the presentation. I'm not going bonkers with this as it simply needs to look presentable within the shop and allow locos to be both displayed and demo'd/tested. However, some attention is required on the scenic side, with some refinishing required in places. Lighting needs adding as well.
I can then finish the wiring to the running track and the program track. Some of this wiring will require the inclusion of isolating sections, perhaps odd for a DCC layout. The reason for this is that being a shop layout, it will be used for the display of locos. To keep it simple, the locos will be confined to certain tracks which contain these isolating sections as they will either not be DCC fitted or, being new locos, will all be on address #3 which could be inconvenient if testing something else on address #3 elsewhere on the layout.
A bit to do then but all being well, I am hoping to get the layout back to the shop by a week Monday as I have a need for the space it currently occupies.

When I saw that first photo, I immediately thought Westbourne Terrace! I would have loved to have seen it in steam days, but I had to settle for mostly hydraulics.

Mmm, a rivetted plate girder bridge could be nice, but I feel the “creek” might be better without.
