Aren't they basically identical to the LMS CCT buffers with a sort of U shape step welded on the top? Oh, and fully round heads. I see that you can get these Lanarkshire buffers pre-drilled... Nice work.

Adam

Hi Adam,

I'd checked out the ones Ian had mentioned but they don't appear to be the same (they're listed as B016 & B017) - the two ribs on the BR version extend about half the length of the main barrel whereas the Lanarkshire ones don't.

I blame it all on peering studiously at photographs in an effort to guess the detail, a hobby that I think you are familiar with given your examples of the craft....!

Just a quick update on progress which does actually involve progress (which is progress for me...)

The ends now have the frame angle uprights in place which has given them the fuller depth, lacking on the original Lima mouldings. The headstocks have now been constructed but for the purpose of the picture are merely tacked in place (which is why the buffer back plate seems to be at an angle).

Next I've turned my (destructive) attention to the battery boxes - given that I had already hacked the backs off them then it wasn't much more effort to dispose of the fronts too...

Finally the CCT is blessed with a rather distinctive hand rail assembly which appears on the left side of the end, adjacent to the framing. They are quite prominent in that the top/bottom bends are more of a curve than a sharp 90 degree bend whilst there is also a centre spigot to contend with. Firing up the soldering iron, here's the outcome...

More bits added - this time it's the locking bar mechanism which has suffered my attention. On the prototype it would appear that the vertical component is square in section but I've cheated by using 0.45mm brass wire which has been filed flat on the front face. I've also added a few rivets to the cupboard door hinges and started to put the detail on the bottom flap, swear word rate increasing as a consequence...

Thought to myself fitting the end handrails would be a nice ten minute job - wrong!

Bust drill bit on the first go so had to hack into the side to retrieve the errant piece and then try and make good - who said modelling was easy?...
