2mm Rittersdorf

Hello fellow Thunderers - I'm back after a six-week enforced absence due to being laid flat - not just low - by a nasty bout of food poisoning. TBH I thought The Grim Reaper was at the door,! However, apparently my number has yet to come up :).

It has meant all work on the model railway front stopped and has remained at a standstill as I am currently unable to cope with the physical requirements to manhandle the Rittersdorf board to fix up the wiring and other odds and sundries. Fitness is returning, but like most things at my age, very slowly so Rittersdorf does have a future. In the meantime, thanks to family help, I have a little project that I can manage in hand and once there is something to write about and hopefully show I will do so. Unfortunately the terms 'weak' and 'kitten' are, in my case, very appropriate so my efforts remain very limited.

Please be patient and I have every hope that personal improvement will result in something being available for discussion soon. It will be N gauge of course, and DRG prototype. The stock is to hand, the enthusiasm is there - the rest I hope will follow........

See you soon,
Roger

That’s the main ‘barrier’ sorted, Roger. The rest will indeed follow, hopefully sooner rather than later

Welcome back ol’ chum.

Roger,

Although vaguely similar, my apparent determination to downsize has only been partially successful mostly because of eBay failing to sell all the DB stuff.

This has led to a reevaluation of the plan, the first reaction was to repost the items and to continue the process, surprisingly this worked BUT those items that initially received zero interest (watchers and/or views) were not reposted (at least, not yet) Ironically some were my favourites and this triggered a different response, they rejoined the conversation.

Given that the permanent nature of the layout and that none of the Pottendorf buildings have been sold, employment for the unsellable junk can be found.

This outcome is only vaguely similar to Roger’s situation but it does reveal two constants, ‘when one door closes another opens’ and ‘don’t throw the baby out with the bath water’

So, Roger, enjoy your respite, keep active, modelling is therapy for both the body and the soul.

The thread title has been adjusted to take in the latest developments. In the light of my present situation, I have comandeered a piece of 9mm ply, 1200 x 300mm in size, which I can manage to handle and deal with in my den. This will have a terminal to storage siding and industry in broad terms and be KPEV/DRG timespan (Epochs I and II) and a branch off the main line between the Ruhr and Rittersdorf. This will be the basis of the backstory anyway although the two layouts are not designed to actually link up.

Work has commenced and the ply has been covered with 5mm foam-board and the next stage is the cork underlay. Onwards and upwards at last! I'll keep working, albeit slowly I'm afraid, and pictures will hopefully follow in due course. So, until then -

Cheers,

Roger ;)
